Screenwriter Patrick Marber and Author Zoe Heller read scenes from the novel and the screenplay, and discuss the process of adapting the story.
I know there is little to no information for what I know. I doubt their stories are from what I heard an air of difference from the book. And I'm sure the writer is an awsome individual.
This is very interesting. I'm obsessing over various adaptions these days, and I feel a need to read the book now, since I thought the film was exellent. My respect for the british film-industry is getting bigger every day. Hope I'll get the chance to work in it one day. What I've come to understand is that an adaptation is not at all a truthful copy of the book, and that it should not be so either. The process of writing the script must be painful, because you are forced to choose which parts of the story to keep, and which parts to throw away or at least alter. Film is a different medium, and the economy of the storytelling must win over the desire to tell everything you've read. It's more about recreating a mood, or highlighting the meaning, or the essence of the story I suppose. Bla, bla. Sorry. I'm a bit obsessed these days. By the way, Cate Blanchett, Judy Dench and Bill Nighty were all amazing (as always). And where did they dig up that boy? Have the feeling I've seen him before, but I don't remember where. Amazing performances.
