...Your forgetting people with Asperger Syndrome. I have it and i can best relate it to, being an alien in a world where you have no way to tell what is the right way to act, because you can't decipher the language of the natives.
I have Asperger's too. I am excited to see a film that represents us so well. I wish it was playing where I live.
I hope others will eventually watch my film at Sundance. I make films about Asperger's (www.lauranadine.net/video.html) and I would love the opportunity to speak with this films director about what he learned making this film.
I have just watched all of these clips and am going to see the movie asap - tonight, if possible! I have a son with mild Aspergers symptoms, and I'm going alone because I think this movie will make me weep uncontrollably... That said, what I was most struck by in watching these clips is how apparently unmoved Peter Gallagher was by the character or the story - his favorite part of the movie was THE CITY?! And the LITTLE BIT OF MADNESS in Rose's eyes?! How UNBELIEVABLY COLD and INSENSITIVE to the subject matter those comments are! He wasn't filming some typical romantic comedy - this touches so many of us on a very deep and personal level, and THAT was the best he could come up with??? He sounded so shallow and clueless, much like I remember his character was in The Idolmaker. I hope seeing him onscreen tonight and remembering his thoughtlessly cold clip doesn't temporarily ruin the movie for me. Thank you in advance (apologies for not remembering the author's name) for writing this story. I am already emailing my friends about it, and will certainly buy the DVD to share with others.
I don't believe anyone truly knows what Asperger Syndrome is until one has lived with a family member who has it. But I'm glad that this movie has been made and lets the world know that Asperger's exists. I plan to see it in my local theater this week. I am the mom of an A.S. son.
