Director Danny Boyle discusses the role destiny plays in SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE.
Great movie.. I took my oldest daughter who is 14. We both loved the movie.
She commented at the end, "I'm glad it was a happy ending." and "I really like the music!" I saw the movie again with my husband. I think the second time I enjoyed it more.

Such a unique and moving film. I felt as if I was watching a truly new tale about a world that was so foreign yet told in such a universal way. Wonderful achievement.

Stars still in slums!
The two child stars of this movie, which earned at least $ 326 million dollars, still live in slums.
Actually, the slum little Azharuddin lived in was bulldozed and now he and his family are homeless according to a recent newspaper report (May 14, 2009). Little Rubina's slum was flodded with sewage water last month according to the article.
I did not see the film, but it is unconscionable to me that these children were exploited by hollywood and returned to a slum. The film won best movie of the year and 8 Oscars in total. It says a great deal about the culture of hollywood, director Danny Boyle, producer Christian Colson, and 20th Century Fox. How can they possibly reap such monetary gain without a thought to the slums that they portrayed in their movie? to the very children featured in their movie?
I hope there will now be a negative spotlight on the producers of this film which will pressure them into doing what is right. Otherwise, perhaps the movie would be better titled "Hollywood Millionaires...exploiting India."
And you honestly believed a news article? Yea right, they probaly just made that up. You can't talk if you've never even seen the movie. Don't believe everything you read.
I watched this movie in Korea.
So.So. Amazing Movie.

it is about destiny...
let the road be rough and dreary and it's end far out of sight .
foot it brave strong or weary ; trust in God and do the right.
whoever criticize the film is an idiot!
the film is not about India or poverty .it is not a documentary as people trying to pull it in a debate...these people are mean and cannot see the success of the film .
the film has high theological and moral values.
it says that God also have a plan to reach one's dream and destiny favors the good person.

"DESTINY"
Despite the word "DESTINY" being used constantly throughout the film, you can't spell it!!
With so many "awkward" spellins [sic] of the word 'Destiny' funny how its impact in the comments is not deminished...'It is written'. Type on fellow humans.
I WAS BORN IN INDIA AND I HAVE BEEN TO MUMBAI TOO. ITS A REALLY GREAT CITY. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS MOVIE. ITS AWESOME.
Captures the intensity and harshness of life in India as well as innocence and hope. Well done!
I disagree...partly. Life in Mumbai, not India. Life in Mumbai is very different compared to rest of India.
This is the first movie I have seen that I walked out of the theater after 25 minutes. What garbage!!! I saw Benjamin Buttons movie the day before- it was like going from super to crap in no time flat. This movie belongs in the slums!
YOU ARE FULL OF CRAP, WHOEVER YOU ARE THE BEST WAS EXCELLENT AND 100% CORRECT ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUNG INNOCENT KIDS IN INDIA!!!! SO YOU NEED TO GO TO THE SLUMS INSTEAD OF THE MOVIE JACKASS!!!!
your not very bright. either go back to watching south park or you try and make something better if you think you're smart enough. I highly doubt it. ignorant
In a way you are right that it belongs to the slums - but I say that for different reasons. The movie-mavens and fiction-writers are more interested only in the 2D aspect of the life in the city. It is either about slums or skyscrapers. But what they usually miss out is the third dimension, the average middle class Bomabayite of whom I could get glimpses only while treveling for my company. I am yet to see or read about that third dimension probably because it doesn't suit the tear-ecstasy extremes required by producers and publishers. May be their local theatrical groups may have such content but I don't know their language to appreciate that. Also, for our credit-driven-"surreally" wealthy society it may be gratifying and self-serving to picture the rest of the world as slums, be it Bombay or Bangkok. A wrong concept standing too exposed in the recent economic downturn. Some of our own suburbs are no better than slums. Only that we think it is below our dignity to admit that. Skeptical? Just say New Orleans.
I agree with you. I've been to Bombay and worked in the slums of Delhi and what really surprises you is to see the joy and smiles on the children's faces regardless of their condition.
I am an Indian and I saw this movie with someone who has never been to India or Mumbai for that matter. She was surprised to see Mumbai this way and thats what I liked about the movie. People really have no idea what life is like out there for the common man too, and yet theres this optimism that keeps taking them forward. I loved the expressions of the kiddos! They were just super!
I've lived in Mumbai for more than 6 years. Its a really touching movie and the madness of people for "Kaun Banega Crorepati" >> "Who wants to be a millionaire" is greatly pictured. Awesome Love story too..and the kids are really super. Give them oscar.. :)
Such a unique and moving film. I felt as if I was watching a truly new tale about a world that was so foreign yet told in such a universal way. Wonderful achievement.
Great Love Story
I loooooove this film ... i became so emotional for the first time after seeing a film.
A wonderful movie...... I don't think anyone has ever shown mumbai in such a real way....
THIS MOVIE BROUGHT OUT THE REAL ESSENCE OF INDIA. GREAT MOVIE. HEART WRENCHING. A TEAR JERKER AND AT THE SAME TIME HOPEFUL.
Wonderful movie. It really made me think about what is important in life. Love, hope, and never giving up. An inspiration to everyone. The Oscars won for this film were so well deserved. I am so glad to see movies being made about human survival and love and life. Give me that over Batman anyday. I truly hope one outcome of this movie is that evil procurement of child exploitation is highlighted and stopped.
** I am hoping also, that a portion of the takings from this film goes back into India, to the charities that work in the very slums that are portrayed.
