I could not agree more. It was the little children actors that truly made you believe they knew what slum life was about. In the end I realized it was they who brought the true realism to the movie. They deserve the best actor award. Not the adults in the movie.

I followed every article on the movie "Slumdog Millionaire". I am glad for what is happening in the lives of the child actors. I am saddened, however, to note that there is no more news on the child actor who portrayed the blind child. After watching the movie, i could not help but think of the child. i am sure many of us who watched the movie noticed the child. He deserves credit and the attention showered upon the other cast. Without him the story would not be deeper.

It was Loveleen Tandon who directed the first part of the movie - she is the co-director and could communicate with the kids in Hindi. Danny Boyle only edited this section for the best bits. She should shared the award with Danny for her fantastic efforts.

Despite all these issues I love this movie. This is agreat great movie.

I really dont know why people are complaining about "who didnt do what". See the success my friends...see how Danny has taken these kids to the oscars...observe what he did, no Indian director or millionaire could do...tell me who is responsible for the slums??? dont blame Danny or the Americans. Lets blame ourselves. Remember that we chose our Government and we chose our rulers...not Americans....Also remember that Americans have given a sparkling torch to our children and to the slum children...I believe that over and above the compensation for the movie, the slum kids have been given education and a house....how much more can a foreigner do...All you people who are writing ill about him should see if you can afford to give a house and education to atleast one kid. I do understand that the slum kids are suffering...and I personally empatize with them and I would want to help as best as I could....so please my Indian bretheren....dont accuse without checking facts and let us be happy that our Indian children are creating history all over the world whether its theatre, art, education etc...

Estimado Sr Boyle,

Silvina,
Buenos Aires, Argentina

Mr. Danny,

Congratulations! You must have a heart that sees what many of us refuse to see that is why you were able to make this wonderful movie.

Hope you also give attention to that child.

why cant any bloody indian bollywood stars do something for those kids. we want americans and foreigners to do something for our people but we cant do anything for our brothers and sisters!

ankit.

Thank you so much Danny for giving an opportunity to those kids. Azhar (young salim) and Rubina Ali (young latika) are from slum and still live in slum. There has been news that they were given some meagre compensation, a trust formed when they attain 18 yr old for education and regular monthly compensation but do they really met all these what they really deserve? ; my question is
1. Why are they still living in slum specially Azhar in very bad shape, he lives with his siblings and parents who is sufferning from Tuborculosis and unable to earn for living.

2. What about their education now and future. Is there any system which would take care of these kids met all the above offering?

3. Why cant some one big from the film industry or any one who has big heart adopt them or help their parent get decent earning with taking up their responsibility. Are all the big stars sleeping? they earn in crores cant they help atleast these 2 kids who got India and film industry pride. I know its difficult but not impossible.

My heart bleeds wehn i see the condition of Azhar and Rubina, in particular Azhar he is so innocent. I've seen his pictures and video in internet youtube and he is really little star.

MY MESSAGE TO THE READER IS TO HELP THESE KIDS IN ANY WAY YOU CAN.

I so much agree with every single thing you wrote. I've been in tears watching that poor boy get hit by his father because he was tired of being paraded around. I think it was incredibly cruel to show these children "the good life" then throw them right back into the horrific living conditions they were in. I'm disgusted by the adults not caring about their children's welfare while grubbing for everything they can.

How can I help? I don't have much but I would like to help

Hi Danny,

One more thing I must add. Thanks for giving those slum children a chance to act in your movie and giving them a dream. I am sure, that is far more real than Jamal becoming the millionnaire in your movie.

i agree that it must have been the best time of there lifes for those children who are in it because as they have never been in a film before and for those children living in the mumbai slums must of been a dream come tru as you would think slum children would never had a chance to have been in the film and now they have bless them

Hi Danny,

Congratulations to you and all the members of your 'Slumdog Millionnaire' team on winning the Oscar. Its a great movie and it deserved it, not because it dwells on rags to riches story or childhood love-lost-found syndrome, but because it highlights the pathetic lives of the Slums of Bombay, the organized crimes- begging, prostitution and gangster activities. I personally admire you for highlighting the above aspects and I hope the Government of India does something for the slum rehabilitation, upliftment of the poor and eradicating the social evils.

Subu Mohanty

I watched the BBC news last night and they showed where the youngest child lived who played Jamal. IT was still the worst slum no toilet feces and urinating outside in a lot, all ramshackle huts of continuous pieces of tin.
The people of America who made this movie have a MORAL obligation to go to that slum and remove that family go buy them a decent house and get them on their feet; after ALL that boy did for them. I was shocked to see that is still the way the child actor lives today. They said the money from the movie is gone. HIs father has TB.
Americans are greedy and it shows all the time!

Mr. Boyal and Mr. Producer look honest persons and they commited to help those slum child artists. I am positive about that. They have already been put in to a school. Besides fox searchlight and filmakers gave honor to those kids by facilitating their visit to OSCAR. Jagroop, Canada

why does it show that americans are greedy? if you followed more on the story you would realize that they are being put up in a house. if americans are so greedy why isn't anyone else stepping up?

Why are these children still living in squalor? Why? Are you that greedy as to not want to help these children and their families?
THE WORLD IS WATCHING YOU!!!
mOST Sincerely, S.Ray

Boyle and this film company should be ashamed.

"Slumdog" child star's Mumbai shanty home torn down (Reuters)
MUMBAI (Reuters) - City authorities in Mumbai demolished the shanty home of a "Slumdog Millionaire" child star on Thursday, forcing his family into the streets months after the Oscar-winning film shot him to global fame.

Azharuddin Ismail, 9, played the character of Salim as a child in the film, a rags-to-riches romance about a poor Indian boy competing for love and money on a television game show.

Ismail's tarpaulin-covered home in a teeming slum was one of several shanties, illegally built along a drain, that were demolished by local authorities in Mumbai, India's financial capital and entertainment hub.

"When they came I was sleeping, they shook me awake and one policeman even threatened me," Ismail, surrounded by half-broken suitcases filled with clothes and utensils, told Reuters.

"What can I do if they have demolished my house? I will sleep out in the open."

A poster of "Slumdog Millionaire," signed by director Danny Boyle, fluttered from the only wall of Ismail's shanty still standing. Open sewers run nearby and it had no running water.

Authorities said the shanties had been demolished earlier but had sprung up again on the same spot.

"The shanties are all touching a drain that has to be cleaned before the advent of the monsoons," said U.D. Mistry, the local official in charge of the demolition drive.

Earlier this year, there was an outcry after pictures emerged of "Slumdog Millionaire's" child stars living in squalor despite the movie's box-office success and eight Academy Awards.

The film also sparked controversy for its name, deemed by some to be offensive to slum dwellers, and its treatment of the cast. Its depiction of the lives of poor Indians was dubbed "poverty porn" by sections of the media.

In February, the housing authority of Maharashtra state, of which Mumbai is the capital, said they would give Ismail and fellow child star Rubina Ali new houses. But Ismail's mother, Shameem, said the family is now at the mercy of the rains.

"We also heard that the government had promised us houses, but what happened? We are still homeless," she said. "My son has brought glory to the country, shouldn't he get some credit?"

its a great movie Mr boyle.............you opened worlds eye...congrat

shams-dubai

the slum dog millioner already got two oscer that is two little kid actors ,they are the real heroes of the movie, who created a history.they deserve all credit of the movie,

fan of real heroes

I quite agree with you. How true are the allegations that the children are still living in slum conditions? If this is so, then they have been exploited and the film should not receive any oscars!

Anne wells

Why aren't Ayush Mahesh Khedekar, Azharuddin Mohammed, and Rubina Ali listed in the cast credits on the official website??

Danny Boyle talks about why he enjoys working with child actors, such as those in SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE.

The kids stole the show...great acting better than the adults and yet they got paid less than $1,000 dollars...Not just because their parents agreed with a small fee does not mean the producers and directors will not give them bonuses..This movie will make them super rich aside from famous and yet the only bonus they are willing to give the kids is educational assistance...Don't be a cheap rats (producer and director)..this movie is nothing without those kids..Let me put it simply..your main characters are the kids not the adults in this movie...With millions of dollars you made a $50,000 bonus on top of the educational assistance seems to be a drop in the bucket...I hope your moral values and conscience will agree...This movie opens the doors for you...

absolutely right!
What a shame to pay less than $1,000 for the actual real actors of the movie ! As you can see this movie is full of emotion and yet some people (producer and director) have not a drop of feelings !! Those kids gave the best performance, better than some well known actors in the movie !
If nothing decent is done for those real stars by the producer and director, I think I personally will never see this movie again !!
To those child actors, I give them a standing ovation !!!

first who ever is hating on the movie notorious need to go head some where because biggie and tupac was the one's who had made hiphop come real not no little ass dirty little wayne who everybody is all hype about sexy lingerie like he defintly did not make hiphop happen or brought it back to life so shout up and i cant wait! to see the real one who made hiphop tommorow we love you bigg rest in peace cant wait!

Nobody can predict if a movie is going to be successful or not and if it's going to make "millions" of dollars. It's only after the fact when the movie turns out to be successful that everyone gets to judge the people involved in the filming as if they were out to take advantage of these kids and their parents. Not to mention the fact that maybe the kids stole the show, but would they have stolen the show with any other director in any other movie and even had this new opportunity in life? It's easy to be high on your moral self after the fact. Would you be concerned about the well being of those kids if their acting sucked and the movie tanked and received horrible reviews?

They deserve it. A bit of recognition from the oscars would be a very wonderful thing for these kids.arda turanmsn nickleriÇok Güzel Hareketler Bunlarkral tv

I believe that the young children, along with the casting director and the director, deserve the majority of the credit for the success of this movie. Had the children not grabbed your heart and your attention from the opening scene, the movie would have been a flop.
While setting up a trust fund is a sensible idea, how are these kids suppose to live until they reach the age of 18? In huts, out in the open under a tent? And what about the child who played the blind Advir, Siddesh Patil? Is he really blind? And if so, are his needs being met at all?
My heart bleeds for these children and I think all of us who feel the same way should start a fan club or something to push for better living conditions and true recognition of their talent.
Ayush Mahesh Khedekar is by far the most talented actor in the whole movie, (sorry Dev and company). This child is a natural, he has it all, and as such should have received recognition from the different organizations that have issued nominations and awards to this film.
Ayush has a future as an actor, why not pursue it? Same for Azharuddin and some of the other children.
I would love to start a fan club, if there are any followers, please email me at iamsaratogamist@aol.com and let's see what we can do together for these children.
Meanwhile, they better be at the Oscars, right Mr. Doyle?
Thank you!

I agree with you. What happened to Sidddesh Patil? Hope he will also be included in the blessings showered on the others

These Kids really need to be recognized they're all so beautiful especially the little jamal Ayush Mahesh Khedekar they should all be at the oscars!!!!!! Someone take care of this please!!

This was an amazing movie! The kids touched my heart with the harsh reality of India!
The child actors deserve the awards!!

The film is beautiful coz of the child actors, particularly the character of Jamal. Hope they are in LA for Academy Awarda. They should have been the recpients of SAG Awards. What r the adults doing out there without even sharing an iota of publicity with the kids. Its disheartening to watch this.

Kid actors still living in Slums!! "It has emerged that the children, who played Latika and Salim in the early scenes of the film, were paid less than many Indian domestic servants." (from UK newspaper) Slumdog Millionaire is poised to make over one hundred million dollars following the critical acclaim and Oscar nominations. The kids, who made this movie great with their outstanding portrayal in the first half of the film, derserve to be well compensated for their hard work. At least a five million should be set aside for the kids and their families.

So now the film makers are obliged to take care of the child(ren) and the entire family? The biggest mistake is to hand a child everything in a silver platter. What most of you guys are suggesting is certainly not beneficial to the children but extremely beneficial to the parents/families. Do you believe that the parents will be able to manage that outrageous amount of monies you suggested? Despite outcries about the moving showing the negative side of India, there is truth there with a lot of the illegal elements that would target these kids. Investment in their education so that they can take care of themselves is worth more than the millions of dollars.

I agree. I read that what this young boy did make went to medication for the father, and they were still sleeping on cars. Now that this boy has had a taste of good food and care it seems cruel to put him back on the streets. I would care for him in a heartbeat as would so many. He is so smart and talented. Then when he is 18, give him his trust fund and he could go back to india and help those in need if he wanted to.

Well this certainly has brought tears to my eyes to know that theses are truely slum kids! The kids that played Salim and Latika were so amazing they made me cry. Please these children deserve to enjoy the galmity of the highlights! They deserve to be well compensated Mr.Boyle!!!

Certainly a best pictue depicting fiction, reality, romance, action, hope, determination, truth and adventure all in just 2 hour time...

The children should be present when they accept the awards for Oscars....after all they're part of why the movie became so awesome and realistic! love the scene where they were atop of the train trying to sleep...

... holding on to each other's hands, trying not to fall off. Brilliant movie, from start to finish.

Mr. Danny Boyle'
Congratulations to you sir. Please now, really help these children who made your show so successful by giving them a big pay cheque and in such a way so they can get up to university education thereby ensuring them a better life. Also it is unacceptable that they are not projected in the award shows.Their input really made the show.
anitakbr@yahoo.com

I do hope the child actors will get a big payoff for their brilliant acting. This money should be used to educate them and give them a real chance to escape the slums.I hope also that they will be allowed to go to the award shows because their input really made the show the success that it is.
anitakbr@yahoo.com

The children definitely deserve credit! They are the ones who brought the movie to life for me.

I agree - the little kids made this movie - especially little Jamal (Ayush Mahesh Mangeshkar). Please show them some recognition - they were amazing little actors. Take them to the Oscars!

I could not agree more. It was the little children actors that truly made you believe they knew what slum life was about. In the end I realized it was they who brought the true realism to the movie. They deserve the best actor award. Not the adults in the movie.

I came across an article on imdb that says the kids in the movie live in slums. i would like to help them, so it would be great if you could let me know their whereabouts or their guardian/agents. Thanks!
Anita

These kids are getting a lot of attention and they are getting help.

You may want to help the other hundreds of thousands of kids who has to beg on the streets in India. I just saw on youtube.com a clip about a program in Delhi that is trying to get kids beggars off the street.

Disclaimer: I've never been to India, this is just my opinion.
