I agree totally with your post! It seems that some of the people have got it all twisted about people of color as a whole! It really does not matter where the female actress in the movies was from. That was not the plot or point of the movie. It is so sad that many american's are only skin deep, that is why they are in the mess they are in right now amongst each other. no matter which century we live in,white /fair skin has and always will be considered beautiful compared to dark/wheatish skin,its the way things have always been. This movie is awe inspiring! This is simply one of the bests movies created, dependent on the story line of course. The girl is beautiful, no doubt about it...but no one focuses on the little ones, they the ones who created the amazing platform at the beginning, the whole falling in the shit part to see his hero.....that's amazing...lol.

Stop talking about my relative Frieda like that! We come from the Mangalore region in India. We are pure Indian of the Saraswati Brahmin caste who were converted to Catholicism in the 1600's by the portuguese who were in Goa at the time. Being of Brahmin descent, it was strictly forbidden to mingle with Portuguese. When the Portuguese tried to impose their Christian behaviours and dress on the Brahmin population there, the Saraswati Brahmins along with their converted Catholic Brahmins moved to the Mangalore area of Karnataka, and set up a very thriving community which still exists to this day. We are 100% Catholic Brahmins and very proud of it.
I watched this movie 2 weeks after it was released in the cinema. I was 'blown away' by the story line, the sound production, the picture quality, the whole concept. I told my mate at the end of the movie that the world has never seen such a film, and as such it will win every award the world has to offer.
Last week my prediction came true, with this fantastic movie bagging 8 Oscars amongst other awards already received.
I want to use this medium to congratulate, Danny Boyle and the rest of the acting crew...It is a masterpiece.
P.S The wee boy at the begining of the movie that was desperate to see his hero 'Amitabh Bachan' was simply ace. The residents of the Mumbai 'slum' that felt aggrieved with regards to the film title and went as far as burning the effigy of Danny Boyle should please take a 'chill pill'. I don't think the title was meant to subject them to ridicule in any form.

This movie is excellent...It really made my day...Freida is sooo beautiful...Who cares if she has a spanish last name or else!!...I HAVE READ a lot of comments on this forum and some are very offensive about racism and some other stupid stuff...who cares!!...This movie is a Jewel, a classic, Freida is a princess!!...Congratulations Danny Boyle for show us this part of the world that some people ( including me ) didn't know it exist...!! And congratulations to all the cast of excellent actors in this marvelous picture!!

She's not Latino. She is a Catholic I believe, hence her name, but ethnically and racially she is east-Indian. There are thousands of women in India who look just like her, she has very typical Indian features. India is a country of 1 billion people, thus its population inevitably, is very diverse in appearance. East-Indian women can generally be categorized into a few distinct types of appearances, reflecting their origin within the country. There are many dark-skinned east Indians with rounded, flat features and many fair-skinned Indians with more, lets say, "typical caucasian" features. People have written off the east-Indian race in terms of beauty, but you will find the most beautiful women reside there. An open mind will let one discover wonders.
She is not "Latino", but she has a Portuguese surname. Portuguese were in India for more than 400 years, namely in Goa, Bombay, etc.
She looks Indian but also quite Portuguese, I can tell you; I bet she has Portuguese ancestors. If I saw her in Lisbon I would say she is Portuguese (not the same for Aishwarya Ray or Basu, for instance).

As an Indian girl, I'd like to say I'm offended that a lot of Americans seem to think that Indian girls are ugly and dark. What a racist and sad thing to say, you're missing out on a beautiful and intelligent race of women, which is fine by me, because it's your loss. India has the highest precentage of Miss Universe winners ever. India is the home origin of Aishwairya rai, former Miss Universe, and voted the most beautiful woman in the world. There are beautiful and ugly people everywhere, but India has an untapped potential in beautiful women. We all have big beautiful eyes for one and natural lashes, I don't know a single Indian girl who needs mascara. So here's to Indian women, who I feel are often unappreciated by the world because of our cultural sterotypes and unappreciated by our own indian men because there's so many beautiful girls to choose from, they've gotten concieted.
Lastly, Frieda Pinto is INDIAN. It's offensive that people seem to think if a woman is beautiful she cannot be pure Indian, SHE IS. But I don't need to belabor the point, go out there and give every race a chance, we all have our strong points!

I went from extreme saddness for the people of such severe poverty to unspeakable anger as I watched the many poor so mistreated and the women so used, to utter happiness and cheer as I watched this love story unfold. It is a movie, I found, with powerful forces that tug at every human emotion. I will buy this movie when it becomes available. I am so thankful that there was no sex, nudity and little profanity that I could recommend to my kids.
Powerful and riveting with a dynamic score. The casting was first rate and you believe the story as it transitions from the past to the present. Most powerful film I've seen since The Godfather.
