I agree totally with your post! It seems that some of the people have got it all twisted about people of color as a whole! It really does not matter where the female actress in the movies was from. That was not the plot or point of the movie. It is so sad that many american's are only skin deep, that is why they are in the mess they are in right now amongst each other. I am also a black american woman, but is often mistaken as Dominican/latin, but immediately make the correction. I AM A PROUD VERY BEAUTIFUL BLACK WOMAN! Look at our first lady, she is very beautiful. Some of the people on this message board are quite ignorant, you can tell by their post.

I went from extreme saddness for the people of such severe poverty to unspeakable anger as I watched the many poor so mistreated and the women so used, to utter happiness and cheer as I watched this love story unfold. It is a movie, I found, with powerful forces that tug at club penguin every human emotion. I will buy this movie when it becomes available.

no matter which century we live in,white /fair skin has and always will be considered beautiful compared to dark/wheatish skin, its the way things have always been. Indians themselves hate dark complexion-ed girls, matrimonial ads always ask for fair-beautiful girls! they think dark girls are ugly,i have seen indians commenting brutally on african women, they think they are ugly. atleast the whites have opened up to dark skinned women,a dark skinned woman has a better chance of being called beautiful in america or britain than in india! recently indians booed off african cheerleaders during a game held in india. shameful.

I don't know who you hang out with but she is gorgeous and amazing in this movie. I loved it and you can't down play a masterpiece like this. Nope. I won't let you. You're just jealous you're not in it.

I love everything about the film. I love the choice to use a lot of ‘80s hair metal on the soundtrack... I love Tomei’s work as a woman who tells herself whatever she needs to in order to face her job every night.sexy lingerie sexy costumes bedroom furniture I love the matter-of-fact way some of the film’s biggest emotional moments unfold... And I love the ending. The whole thing, right down to the absolute right last shot

She is not "Latino", but she has a Portuguese surname. Portuguese were in India for more than 400 years, namely in Goa, Bombay, etc.
She looks Indian but also quite Portuguese, I can tell you; I bet she has Portuguese ancestors. If I saw her in Lisbon I would say she is Portuguese (not the same for Aishwarya Ray or Basu, for instance).

Stop talking about my relative Frieda like that! We come from the Mangalore region in India. We are pure Indian of the Saraswati Brahmin caste who were converted to Catholicism in the 1600's by the portuguese who were in Goa at the time. Being of Brahmin descent, it was strictly forbidden to mingle with Portuguese. When the Portuguese tried to impose their Christian behaviours and dress on the Brahmin population there, the Saraswati Brahmins along with their converted Catholic Brahmins moved to the Mangalore area of Karnataka, and set up a very thriving community which still exists to this day. We are 100% Catholic Brahmins and very proud of it.

The is absolutely one of the most beautiful women on screen. The movie is a masterpiece.
Anonymous | February 25th, 2009 19:38
She's not Latino. She is a Catholic I believe, hence her name, but ethnically and racially she is east-Indian. There are thousands of women in India who look just like her, she has very typical Indian features. India is a country of 1 billion people, thus its population inevitably, is very diverse in appearance. East-Indian women can generally be categorized into a few distinct types of appearances, reflecting their origin within the country. There are many dark-skinned east Indians with rounded, flat features and many fair-skinned Indians with more, lets say, "typical caucasian" features. People have written off the east-Indian race in terms of beauty, but you will find the most beautiful women reside there. An open mind will let one discover wonders.

Why is everyone sooooo worried about race?!!! You people just dont wanna accept the fact that shes beautiful and she's not mixed with anything! Quit saying it because shes latina! There are plenty of people with last names of different origin but that dosnt change what race they are!! I have an irish last name but im black and beautiful by the way and people get me confused with east indians but im 100% black so looks and names can be decieving. Plus the guy name in this movie was jamal and there are alot of black people with that name, so now are you gonna call him black? I think not! I just hate it when people that are of a certain race see other beautys of other races and they try to say that the other race has to be mixed! GET OVER IT THERE ALOT OF FULL BLOODED PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT ARE BEAUTIFUL!!! Adriana Lima is considered Brasilian but shes also part african you dont hear african people claiming her! Get over it assholes!

finding a pretty indian is not very common..

but the pretty indian girls are usually super pretty, but hard to find. unfortunatley, i've never met a good smelling indian.
Anonymous | December 17th, 2008 09:31
Wish I was Jamal. She is the most beautiful woman on screen.
Anonymous | June 13th, 2009 04:52
Just wanted to say...just like the British, the Portuguese occupied India as well, namely Goa. She may have received her last name due the influence they had on the area. Why can't people accept that she's Indian? Do they have to make an excuse?

The whole film, the director the cast, the lighting.the scenery, background, and the story was "Superb".It is one of those films that I will remember for the rest of my life. You can live with that fantasy for the rest of your life, not the rest of the world though!

This movie is excellent...It really made my day...Freida is sooo beautiful...Who cares if she has a spanish last name or else!!...I HAVE READ a lot of comments on this forum and some are very offensive about racism and some other stupid stuff...who cares!!...This movie is a Jewel, a classic, Freida is a princess!!...Congratulations Danny Boyle for show us this part of the world that some people ( including me ) didn't know it exist...!! >"she's gotta be worth looking for" - yeah, he does say not much more than 'she's hot' . jokes.
While I completely agree, her full acting capability wasn't REALLY given a chance to shine all the way through. The two other child actresses that played Latika did a lot of that role and along with it some amazing performances key to that character... I'll wait for another movie of hers, before I can make any conclusion greater than "i'd love to MARRY her too" .
haeha
>>"Freida I'll meet you in Baga at the main round-about on April 2nd 2009. I'll be there with a ring, and I swear after meeting me you'll know we were meant to be. ;)"

Anonymous | February 18th, 2009 14:08
Seen them all, this one is the Best Picture of the Year, on all levels. An "Excellent story from start to finish."
Anonymous | March 6th, 2009 12:59
Freida is beaufiful--but her surname could of been shortened or adopted. My last name is George --I am not of British origins. Indian's aren't Mexican--both peoples are beautiful. What is it with skin? One must be content with ones own skin. The portugese, dutch, british, french colonial powers came and influenced India for their own economic gain. For Indians, skin isn't an issue or shouldn't be; it becomes a issues only to others. I am light brown skinned indian from jewish syrian and christain background (but that history is over 2000 years old.) The jews came to south india first over 2700 years ago. Yes India is a people of aryan ancestry but we are also dravidian and so on... who cares. Just like the europeans don't care about their pagan roots it is a part of India's history.

Freida Pinto is such a natural beauty and powerful actress that I could not take my eyes off of her in every scene she was in. The movie is brilliant. She does not have a huge role, but it is integral to this story.
Anonymous | November 22nd, 2008 21:57
I would love to see this film. Freida Pinto is very beautiful and the plot looks amazing.
Anonymous | December 7th, 2008 14:52
Indeed, one of the most beautiful film of these last years. And Freida is really wonderful.
Anonymous | November 17th, 2008 13:46
I can't believe I have to wait to watch this....please release it wide already!!
Anonymous | February 24th, 2009 17:16
The Movie is "Great and Realistic; I am very concern, that. Ms: Freida Pinto is 100% Native From India, about her last name I understand that most of people got or became wrong, but that don't mean that she is Spanish,Mestiza, believe or not there are many spanish last name in india, speciallity in Manglore.
Anonymous | February 24th, 2009 20:13
haha... is that a compliment or an insult?
Anonymous | June 1st, 2009 00:59
I AM AN INDIAN AND PROUD OF IT,
I THINK IT IS RELLY CHEAP AND IMMATURE OF PEOPLE TO SAY SMTHING SO CHEAP FOR SMBDY'S COUNTRY AND PEOPLE.BUT I GUESS THAT'S THE GREATNESS OF INDIANS THAT THEY RESPECT THEMSELVES AND OTHERS TOO.
Anonymous | February 12th, 2009 09:59
How can you say that??? there are millions of beautiful girls in India..open your eyes!! They have such a wonderful beauty.
Anonymous | February 23rd, 2009 18:24
Just wanted to say...just like the British, the Portuguese occupied India as well, namely Goa. She may have received her last name due the influence they had on the area. Why can't people accept that she's Indian? Do they have to make an excuse?

I just wanted to reply and say that I am a young white guy and I think Indian women are extremely beautiful. Frieda is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen but I know she is just the tip of the iceberg. Maybe there are a alot of close minded men out there but I wanted to let you know that we are not all like that! Hopefully with Frieda starring in an Academy Award Winning movie it will help to show Western men especially how beautiful Indian women can be.
Anonymous | December 24th, 2008 18:44
Does anyone else have trouble viewing these videos????
Anonymous | January 2nd, 2009 18:11

Supurb Motion Picture....ALL aspects; photography, editing, score, acting, direction (you name it) Slumdog had it. 2008 BEST Picture....and yes better than Button!
Anonymous | January 18th, 2009 09:08
Where do you get that she's MEXICAN? She's from a part of India (Mangalore) where many Portuguese Catholics settled... hence, the Latin names. But she's 100% Indian.
Anonymous | January 18th, 2009 10:24
in fairness shes is pretty doggie.
Anonymous | January 18th, 2009 14:37
You are an idiot. period!
Anonymous | February 10th, 2009 12:34
Trust me there are some very ugly ass white trash girls in the world too and they weren't born in India! You racist bastard/bitch!!
Anonymous | February 10th, 2009 13:23
Finally, a film that brings you close to some real emotions- a sense of realism that is lacking in most hollywood. movies. You've got to be dead inside not to feel anything from this movie.
PS. Freida's looks transcends the screen.
Anonymous | January 19th, 2009 11:27
Dogs from slums??
Mexican girl?? Do you come from? From Saturn or Vega IV? This a very good movie, a balanced mix between Boyle modern way of filming and Bollywood classic story. Freida is so chairming India girl, she's also a good and expressive actress.
I prefere the first part of this movie, because the second part turn to much to Mumbay traditional plot, with a foreseen ending.
Anonymous | January 19th, 2009 11:31
Yes, great movie and so beautiful Freida
