I live down here in Panama, Central America and I rented the video "The Last King Of Scotland" and I really liked it, the way Mr.Whitaker portrays this African dictator is unique. I read about Idi Amin on local newspapers in the 70's and the only thing I regret is that he was not judged for his crimes against the people of Uganda who happen to be nice people since I had some friends at the university who were from that country. Good Job Mr. Whitaker!
I was glued to the screen from start to finish. whitaker's performance was truly one for the books.
Forest Whitaker will take home the Oscar for best actor this year. He has proven worthy of this in the past and now it's his time to collect. What a versatile intelligent actor. Even a tiny role in a film, like for example, The Colour Of Money, Forrest takes no prisoners on screen. I would love to see him work with Martin Scorcese again; perhaps one of The Departed sequels.
Great job Forrest. From Fast Times to The Last King Of Scotland. This reminds of Sean Penn's treck towards moviedom acting acheivement. There you go, you and Sean do a film together..
One last point, The Last King Of Scotland is a masterfully executed film. It is one of the most rivetting films I have seen in years and one of the most realistic. How hard must it be to capture the charm of madman? How hard must it be to portray a leader most of us know little about? Perhaps Forrest can answer those questions in interviews after he picks up his Oscar.
Absolutely riveting movie. If Forest Whitaker isn't voted the Best Actor for this performance this year...then Hollywood may as well stop handing out the Oscars. While stationed in Ethiopia, I visited Uganda just two weeks prior to Amin's dream of disposing of all non-Ugandans'. I rented a VW beetle and drove from Kampala to Murchison Falls and returned to Kampala. Had I known what was going on , I would not have taken that trip as it was a dangerous tiime to be there. I knew from talking with people, particularly, Asians, who ran most of the enterprises, that something bad was brewing in the country. In addition, nothing was running well...Hotels, transportation, restaurants, and factories were all affected by the Amin nationalization of business establishments...He was truly an uneducated idiot a degenerate and nasty. Thousands were slaughted by this son of a B! The movie really bothered me as it broght back many bad memories we lived through. I did not depart Ethiopia until Haile Selassie was arrested and confined in 1975, when Americans were asked to depart. Forest Whitaker did a marvelous job of portraying Amin and deserves the Academy Award.
I've always enjoyed Mr. Whitaker's work. Today I'm stunned by it. Is he the best actor in Hollywood today? Maybe so.

I have just won two tickets to advance screenings here in Melbourne, Australia.
My daughter said it was about a Ugandan dictator and civil war in the trailers. She thought it looked very nasty.
I told her I grew up with all the reports of Idi Amin and our horror over his behaviour.
Was it terribly violent? It is MA 15+ here so hopefully it isn't too graphic.

The title of the film is misleading, for i am the last King of Scotland!
King Joe of Scotland...(seriously i can't wait to see it it looks great)(oh and my boss hasn't stopped raving about it so i wanna see what all the fuss is about)

Forest Whitaker deserves the Oscar for this movie. It was awesome. It left me speechless. Great Movie.
To all the folks who can't find the film, try a new search now that the Golden Globes are over. It had been released, then pulled from theaters here in Ct. and some of us complained a lot. Now it's been re-released and in major theaters, not just art theaters. Try, try again - it's worth it!

I too was very much looking forward to seeing this film AND STILL AM.
I guess I'll have to wait for DVD. I live in Memphis TN but was unable searching 250 miles out to find a theatre showing it last year when it did its run. This happens on films I want to see quite a lot. It seems mostly only goof ball comedies, slasher films or large Hollywood productions make the main local theatres and any film with a hint of story, substance or drama if they show at all are in a small theatre somewhere for a few days to a week and easy to miss or not be able to schedule to catch. Thus often having to wait 8 months to a couple of years for video availability.
From the trailers Forest Whitaker and the whole cast look like they put together an Excellent presentation. I would have thought with some of the stars in it and the story it would have had more showings. I hope all profit well when it's available for purchase and broadcast.

Not sure why we didn't see this movie in the Midwest (Chicago). I for one was excited after seeing a few trailers for the movie during previews. The problem is the movie never came to a major theater near me. I find it hard to believe here in Chicago The Last king Of Scotland never graced our theaters. What happened? Is it going to be re-released in the U.S. ? From my research it appears it had a very limited release nationwide here. Why is that?
I do community theatre in Atlanta, GA and am often compared to "looking" like you man - - - that's cool....but I want to be compared to ACTING like you. Great Job Sir! and Congratulations!

I've known Forest since grade school in Compton, Ca., and at our sixth grade graduation he ask me "what do you want to be when you grow up?". I really didn't know the answer but I think I said a telephone man, or something like that. Forest said "I'm going to be an actor", I'm pretty sure I laughed but who's laughing now? Forest I'm so happy and proud that you acheived your dream of becoming and actor, an not just any actor, one the the best actor's. Saw the film last night and it was awesome. The whole cinema was left stunned and silent at the end, do not watch before you go to bed!

its about my country ant i cant wait to watch it.. i shouldnt expect it to be rediculous
as soon as the movie started i lean forward and was capture by the music lyrics from the first song to the last. you can really see the passion on his face and sense the strongness of his singing sexy lingerie voice. Its deep..really. cant believe our luck that we were able to catch a movie that will last quite a whil;e i must say in our heads...at least mine.
and ONce again, i was able to cath it on the plane from melbourne to Singpore.sexy costumes.but after watching the movie ONCE, the following 2-3 times, i just fast forward to the songs...its beautiful. I even try to get the gal sitting next to me to watch the movie
The movie DID make it into the black community.... I live in one and saw the movie there. Keep on top of your local newspaper and community papers to learn about upcoming events. It's not the kind of event that you'll see advertised on television. Also, support the local theaters in your community that show independent films.
I personally prefer to look at Forest Whitaker's "own" as the world of other actors and artists - and I'm sure many have seen this riveting film, and experienced his amazing performance. The movie is basically an independent film, and its audience will demographically reflect audience stats for independent films generally.
I would like to see THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND but I do not know where it is showing. I was ill and kept up with it the last two weeks, now I don't see it this week in the Sunday Calendar and since I am better, I wamt see the movie. Thanks for explaining why the title is so called, and thanks for showing some clips. I will report my comments on the movie as soon as I view it. Please get back to me as to where I can find it showing. It was at Magic Johnsons Threatres last week or so, but now I don't see it at all.

Forest Whitaker was awesome in this movie. He definitely deserves an Academy Award for that sterling performance. Magnificant. Trinidad
I'm sure Forest was breathtaking but many of his own will never know. At least not until after the Academy Awards for this year.
