Director Kevin Macdonald talks about filming in Africa and the choice to film in Uganda.

Thanks information about seo company. I get great information from your blog.

Uganda is and has been a very safe place to visit for along time. Amin is thing of he past that we should not forget so as not to repeat, but move forward with the peaceful country Uganda is now.chatchat odalarichatchatodalari

Uganda has certainly become a more peaceful nation for the past couple of decades. One of the relatively stable African nations.

Whilst this movie is great for telling a version of a story, people should continue to travel there and meet the people of Uganda in person with Bears. It is much better to feel the country than to just see it on a screen...

HE WAS THE LAST LOVING UGANDAN PRESIDENT, NO ONE WILL EVER BE LIKE HIM,GOD FORGIVE HIM ,MUSEVENI IS AN INDIRECT MURDERER, EVEN A THIEF OF OUR RESOURCES,AMIN IS STILL LOVED IN UGANDA

I have heard their stories and their families stories first hand, of suffering under Amin and many other dictators before and after. I have also visited the macbre torture chambers that Amin built under ground, to carry out some of his crimes Young Writers

i saw the film in late 2007, (kinda late) and being ugandan, but growing up in the u.k, it opened up my curiosity of ugandan history.
My family told me how beautiful uganda used to be, compared to now, and how as in the film extra says it was like the 'the miami of east africa'.
I know people used to stop over to have a nice time.

There used to be and still are very beautiful places in Africa but the stupid racist media just dont want to show these parts.

I went to visit the country last year and loved it. It was laid-back and people dont hurry like here. Most of them work to live, not live to work and make time for enjoying themselfs and their family.

All my years in the u.k, i never felt home untill i got off that plane. I hope to go back to africa again one day, i think anyone can feel home in Africa.

I suggest, instead of potrayed something to get money but not saving lives. I recommend the westernist to step asides and leave us alone please. It hate my feeling to see this eriting images on the tv with no action taken. People claimed to anaysis and busy to get funding for the something that they can stop. Emily I am sorry if this is too much. I believe this is inhuman. World community need to do something now than later.

i THINK THE MOVIE WAS GREAT. iDI AMIN WAS A DICTATOR AND AN EVIL MAN. hE SOME WHAT REMINDED ME OF ADOLF HITLER, BUT AS WE KNOW ADOLF HITLER IS MORE EXTREME IN THE WAY HE HANDLED HIS PEOPLE AND HIS COUNTRY. i LOVE THE WAY FOREST WHITAKER PORTRAYED THIS MAN IN EVERY GESTURE, HE TRULY DID A REMARKABLE PERFORMANE. hE WAS AT HIS BEST IN THIS FILM.

Uganda is and has been a very safe place to visit for along time. Amin is thing of he past that we should not forget so as not to repeat, but move forward with the peaceful country Uganda is now.

I'm a westerner that has travelled to Uganda and i have some very close Ugandan Friends. I have heard their stories and their families stories first hand, of suffering under Amin and many other dictators before and after. I have also visited the macbre torture chambers that Amin built under ground, to carry out some of his crimes.
However the world must know the Ugandan people are some of the best i have ever met and it is great country to experience. Whilst this movie is great for telling a version of a story, people should continue to travel there and meet the people of Uganda in person. It is much better to feel the country than to just see it on a screen...

I would say that actor has not committed an mistake at this junction. Here also time of event matter, there was lack of media, not only in Uganda but almost the entire continent. There are other great African leaders who claimed have fought for the liberation of our continents from the western domination most of them did the worsed things to westernists and their own African. But there was no media to cover the stories.

I'm a Muganda and surely think that this is a great movie!

What ever the motive oif Idi Amin but his expulsion of Asians was a blessing in disguise.
As a Ugandan Asian I belonged to the lower class of Asians-Poor- and education was a far end of the tunnel for me.
Optimistically having settled in US I got an opportunity to study and surely Idi Amin is my hero!
Life is a full circle.

'Idi Amin is my hero!'

You are a fool and a charlatan gangster then. I hope your life end in ruin.

'Life is a full circle.'

Yes Uganda can do well without you, and Life can do better without you, as well.

I lived in Uganda both at the beginning and at the end of Amin's "reign." He was placed in power by the British who thought they had a puppet who would do their bidding. Amin was a Kakwa, a small tribe in the North, he was illiterate and belonged to the Moslem minority from that region. The movie faithfully describes some of the events that took place during his dictatorship. Unfortunately, very few people know that the rulers who followed him were much worse. I'm talking about the various rogues such as Binaisa, Paulo Mwanga and, of course, the real criminal of Uganda politics, Milton Obote. It's too bad that these characters weren't colorful enough to rate a movie of their own. The movie also shows the beauty of Uganda and the goodness of common people which is beyond description.
Good job!

I was in the 6th form at school when Idi took over Uganda and my town recieved many of the Asians that fled at the time. We were asked to help with the childrens reading classes for one afternoon a week at the local junior school. I was aware of what was happening according to the media and it definitely had an impact on myself and others around me.

I met Idi Amin in exile, very unexpectedly and I was very concerned at the time because I too had heard all the terrible stories.
My observation was that he really cared for his children and was very polite and kindly. His family obviously loved him very much. I can only speak as I find.

Who knows the truth?

We listen to what we are told by our governments and sometimes I wonder if the truth is actually bent to suit, nothing would surprise me.

You could have looked for a role player from Uganda, who would cope up with variety of languages/dialects as Amin did! Infact, try to watch Entebbe raid! True, the last King of Scotland is entertaining but nothing new to go back to box office Free online games

Plight of Asians overlooked
The plight of Ugandan Asians was overlooked in this film and continues to be overlooked. In an exodus that rivalled many of today's conflicts entire generations of Asians were forced to flee Uganda and subjected to similar atrocities that the domestic population suffered. It is disquieting to find that in this century Amin's exploits have attained legendary status among the lost and misguided youth of Ugandan-origin. Don't immortalise the evil that was this man, he is in the fine company of the world's most evil dictators and it is there he deserves to remain.

RE:I am a member of Buganda's

WHAT ARE YOU SO IMPRESSED ABOUT BY AMIN? THE MAN MURDERED YOUR FELLOW COUNTRY MEN AND MADE UGANDA OUT TO BE A JOKE. THAT IS SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF???! FOOL

I am a member of Buganda's royal family, although shall know me only by the name of my alias ,and friend, Omar H K K, know this - I speak the truth-.

Personally I believe that this movie is a spectacular acomplishment, as it potrays Idi Amin, as the man he really was,not as the media of certain countires would have us to percieve him to be. My subjects of Buganda a great man was born amongst your mist, Hounor his memory, Glorify his name, Love the man. Let no disparagment of him go unnoticed, Director, i commend you however i fear i must argue with the validility of the latter section of your movie perhaps the graphical nature of which he is potrayed here is over excessive is it naught?

but even if Mark sees youthful potential in Juno or a soul-mate from a different generation, these descriptions seem like a wishful and disingenuous interpretation of an adult who is bordering upon an inappropriate territory. In fact, while watching Mark and Juno bond over movies and music, a teenage girl sitting sexy lingerie behind me was weirded out enough by the dynamics of their relationship to actually exclaim “gross!” Yet, Bateman somehow makes Mark sexy costumessympathetic instead of just plain creepy, and that takes some seriously subtle skill for such a mildly disturbing role.

We are Asian Ugandans who went to see this film. We enjoyed it and thought it was well done. However, we felt that the plight of the Asians at the time was not fully documented. The movie highlights the suffering of Ugandans yet brushes over the plight of the Asians. It was an important historical event that occurred during Amin's regime and we were disappointed in the fact that that was not shown fully. However, excellent movie and we recommend it highly.

I was instrumental in bringing Amin down. I worked for the Tanzanian Army training the Tanzania’s People’s Defence Forces, and met Amin personally prior to his downfall.

He was an ogre of a despot, and I will be very interested to see if the film manages to portray the true horror of his terror reign.

True legacy of Id Amin.
As the say goes, what goes around come around. His legacy cannot be translate in to some else than what he did. The movie is hundred percent about the reality life of dictator Id Amin, King of Africa, President of Uganda, Conqueror of British emperor. No doubt that the filmer has done what the world wanted to know Id Amin lifes. He is path for President Beshir of Sudan. The only things I don't like about westernists, is knowing the problem and making it the sources of income. They were much aware that there is something going wrong with Id Amin leadership in Uganda like they are aware that there is something going wrong with Sudanese government particular in Darfur. But for them get more money out of this drastic, they are longering the actions like what they have done to Suddam. I know those who will get money out of current Darfur Sudanese genocide are fueling the conflict so that they can make more movie out of it. I suggest, instead of potrayed something to get money but not saving lives. I recommend the westernist to step asides and leave us alone please. It hate my feeling to see this eriting images on the tv with no action taken. People claimed to anaysis and busy to get funding for the something that they can stop. I love the way movie is!
Africa wake up. Don't stand behind evil. This is a true legacy of dictator mashal Id Amin. The man was rude, aggresive, merciless, evile and all kind of worse you can said about his legacy. No need for African or Ugandans claiming of Id Amin to be a great Leader. I felt the current leaders like Sudanese President, Zambia need their eroneous images show to the world as the current African's great leaders. If punishing your own people is a reward for the African. If not than we need to appreciate people who sacrified their time and life to potray legacy of those leaders so that the world can see. Who knows you may get help from good Sumartin and help to bring them to justice like what have happen to dictator Suddam Hussien. I need to see them suffering just like they have done it to the rest of their kinderds. Any way if you would like to oppose this film you will be the next dictator, but take my words as a advise for your own benefit, that time to dictate has gone. No more kingdom! people choose their leader or stand up and fight for their right.

I am from within Africa and read a lot about our past great leaders legacy. Don't mistake me here for putting things the way I felt about ourselves/myself/ yoursel. We/I/ME/YOU Africa need to change the way we appreciate our leaders, being alive or dead. Ignorant become the shield that destroyed us and we don't put much in effort on our continent progressive. As the say goes, " as a human, we learn from the past" this is not to say that current movie about Id Amin legacy potrayed worse part of his movie. It depend on who provide the story to the filmers. If it Amin opposer than he/she provide the negative position of the story. Even now there are a lot to say about Africa leaders action toward there own kinderds. For instant look at the country like Somalia, Sudan, Congo or Zaire and so forth.I advised those who are opposing the potration of the films on Id Amin legacy to understand that if Id Amin was a good leader to Africa than there would have been no need for Ugandians to deny his body from bearing it in his homeland. I know the truth and sometime lose due to our egocentries. I would not stand or accept inhuman activities being carry out in the name of the continents and appreciate. If we still have such leaders among us. Time has come for them to follow dictator like Suddam and Hilter and many others. Back off at this point for supporting devil, with evil actions. being his sons, daughter, cousins. Let 's be hold accountable to our deed not others actions. Remember, continents need leaders who are open minded and can focus on people need not theirs own interests.

I do not like the way the west likes to potray Idi Amin, infact, if Amin had said YES to the west, you would have not shot this film. The man is great. He did some of things some of us would only dream...

For the director, although you might have had a good storyline, you should have picked up someone more closer in appearence to the actual Idi Amin - you got it wrong around that point, to be precise, consider changing your make-up artist. You went for big names forgetting, actualy Amin was a Ugandan -You could have looked for a role player from Uganda, who would cope up with variety of languages/dialects as Amin did! Infact, try to watch Entebbe raid! True, the last King of Scotland is entertaining but nothing new to go back to box office.

Otherwise, in future when shooting a movie in a foreign country, consider giving locals leading roles. It may help. Let us not think in the Box.
