Production Day 6: Jodhpur Sikh Temple

From Wes Anderson:

"Anyone who has been inside a Sikh temple knows you are always required to cover your head. There is usually a basket filled with a selection of colorful scarves just inside the door for visitors without turbans to choose from."

one thing i want to say is that sikhs across the world have been hard working and respected. look in india today and not only is the prime minster of india sikh, but the army head is also sikh. many more posts are occupied by sikhs, this is kind of good for a religion that is insignificant.

A fantastic job at producing and acting in this movie. Reading some of the posts above I find it quite interesting, how Sikhs are being compared to Hindus and Muslims. Sikh religion started back in 1467 with the birth of Sikh Guru (Guru Nanak Dev Ji), whose teachings are still the fundamentals of the Sikh religion.
- There is Only One God
- Truth is His Name
- He is the Creator, Protector

Guru Nanak Dev Jee spoke of equality of all man kind and so was followed by all the Ten Gurus. It is true that a true Sikh today will stand up for the his rights and the rights of the weak around them (regardless of color/religion) as they have in the past. One such example comes to mind of Guru Tegh Bhadur, sacrificing his own life to save Hindu pundits from forcefully converted to Islam under the regime of Aurangzeb.

Please visit http://www.sikhnet.com/ if you would like to know more about the Sikh religion.

Sikhs have common both with Hindus and Muslims, but still very distinct from both of them. For God's sake its the newest religion in the World, and if studied well, the most sophisticated.

The Kashmir state is India is still part of India because of Brave Sikhs in the Indian Army, they are protecting it from the Pakistanis.

The Punjab state has given so much to India in general, the farmers are the most hard working there, and so are the Sikh Farmers in California and British Columbia.

Sikhs challenged the Muslima Radicals over 300 years ago and fought so many batles with them, as Muslims were trying to eliminate both Sikh and Hindu religions. Hindus (especially in Northern India) should be very thankful to Sikhs for that. Sikhs have done so much for India, and reveived very little in return from the Indian Govt.

Sikh's should never be
Sikh's should never be confused with us Hindus . They have nothing in Common with Hinduism .They are more closer to Islam than Hinduism.I know this cause I'm a Hindu .We Hindus were naive enough to give our Older male child to the Sikh Quam , unfortunately they paid us back very badly . The Sikhs in Punjab are still better , they still believe Hindus & Sikhs are brothers , but Sikhs in London ,Canada and Sacramento are the worse , they want a distinct Identity ,nothing to do with Hinduism .Also please remember , India is a nation of fighters , the Rajputs , The Martha , The Tamils. The Sikhs failed miserably during the Kargil War .To the extremist Sikhs resistance is futile you will be assimilated ,to the larger SanatanDharma .

who ever wrote this upper paragraph is a an idiot and really foolish who does not know anythin about sikh religion.

buddy u really need to know this so read this-

The Sikh religion today has a following of over 20 million people worldwide and is ranked as the worlds 5th largest religion. Sikhism preaches a message of devotion and remembrance of God at all times, truthful living, equality of mankind and denounces superstitions and blind rituals. Sikhism is open to all through the teachings of its 10 Gurus enshrined in the Sikh Holy Book and Living Guru, Sri Guru Granth Sahib. The word Sikh means a disciple, and it is a good fit. Sikhs believe in one God and the teachings of the ten Gurus, which are enshrined in the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh holy book.

Benn to Jodhpur in Rajastan. The best places to go to in Rajasthan: Pushkar and Jailseimer, I've been to the Golden Temple Amritar. Gorgeous place! I spent 8 month of my life travelling in India. I adore this country. I will sure be back for more. India is gorgeous and what an eye opener. Once you go there you will never be the same again.

Sikhism is offshoot of Hindu religion. It does not have any similarities with Islam. Because of turban many people confuse Sikhs with Muslims. Sikh religion was created to protect Hindus who were being forced to become Muslims about 300 years ago.Although Sikhs are minority in India but there total number is close to 25 million which makes them the 5th largest religion in the world after Christians Muslims Hindus and Buddhists. Sikhs outnumber Jews by slight margin.

It's a misrepresentation to think that Hindus are a majority. There is no homogeneous unified Hindu people.
Each caste in India is its own minority. India is made up of hundreds of minorities. We are told that Brahmins are the
highest caste. That may have been true a 1000 years ago but in today's India. The richer and enterprising communities are the highest as they would be anywhere. The Sikhs have been way up in the Indian hierrachy.
The Sikhs are addressed as Sardarji, which means leader. They have been admired and respected all over the country not just because they are a prosperous community
but also because they have fought and sacrificed more for India than any other community.Despite being just 2% of India's population, the Sikhs are at least 20% of the Indian Army. So when the separatist movement started in Punjab, it was truly disorienting. The most pariotic of Indians had become alienated from India
Till the 80's the Punjabi Hindus and Sikhs were interchangeable as you would find pictures of the Sikh gurus in every
Punjabi Hindu home. After all, The Sikh people were born of Punjabi Hindus raising their eldest sons as Sikhs.
There has been much misunderstanding in the last 25 years.and alientation among the Sikhs.. but we still regard the Sikhs as our heroes.

In India, Sikhism is a minority religion and I like the way they are trying to spread awareness of Sikhism because westerners usually associate them with Islam. Sikh people have wayy different beliefs compared to muslims but the westerners need to realize this. Alot of Sikhs living in America were murdered by the misconception of being muslims. One way to differentiate Sikhs from the muslims if they are wearing a turban is they the turban is shaped. The turban worn by the Sikhs is different from the way muslims wear it.

I am a Sikh born and raised in America and I am really happy to see some part of our religion in this movie. Many times, other religions such as Hinduism are portrayed in movies re India. It is refreshing to see a scene from one of our temples (aka gurdwaras). By the way, if you like the music, check out Dya Singh and his group from Australia. Dya Singh conducted the Sikh religious ceremony at my brother's wedding and he was incredible. He brings Sikh religious hymns to a wider audience with English translations and cool Aboriginal instruments as well traditional indian tabla and harmonium. -Sonia P.S. Great job Wes. You may not remember me but I met you once in Pittsburgh when you were visiting Eric Deutsch at Carnegie Mellon after his graduation! You were on your way to CA to plug the script for Bottle Rocket. Congrats on your achievements.

interesting insight to sikhism AND CINEMA

I love getting to see, firsthand, Wes's meticulous style put into in action, as he adjusts the scarf on an actor's head and backs up to watch carefully over the scene. (Love all the colors too.)
