The movie started out so promising I even liked the fact that 3 of the character was Japanese that makes sense because one country could not create a spaceship quick enough. Just like in 28 days later it started out very strong and fizzled toward the last one third of the movie. In sunshine I really did not like the camera shaking. It seems absurd that a computer that can talk to human so naturally would need humans onboard to complete the mission. The computer orientate the spaceship toward the sun over the objections the human’s demands for it to stop; Would allow initial disaster to take place that places the mission in jeopardy... does not seem likely. It was not for the fact that I enjoy sci-fi so much and how little of these types of movies being made today I would not have seen this movie until it hit the video store especially knowing that the cast did not make it from the get-go something that fox Searchlight website placed on their website or allowed to be placed.

Ghosts and gods
I didn't get them all, but here are the messages in order of appearance. They suggest a deeper meaning and a frell your mind plot.
'blood'
'do you believe in ghosts?'
'I found him in the sun'
'a star fell on her'
'not your god'

'lost in the flares of a dying sun' at 1:01, just before 'blood'

I'm just wondering why a major studio like " FOX " , is re - using music from previous movies ? All of the TV trailers for the movie " sunshine ", are using the wonderfully original score from the 1997 film " THE EDGE ", featuring Sir Anthony Hopkins, and Alec Baldwin ???????? Gentlemen.....are we running low in the " creativity " department ?

Because light plays a major role in the film, the sun and its light act as primary characters. I thought the contrast between the characters' inviolable love for the sun and the simultaneous anguish in the struggle to overcome its death interesting. Boyle did a great job portraying Garland's sun as a heroic character and as an antagonist.

I just noticed in watching this video that words pop up for a VERY brief moment, such as "blood" while Tildesley discussed the "veins" of the ship.
Something kinda cool and creepy about that detail...

The movie is visually beautiful beyond words, but the science is too silly or just plain wrong (so no science-fiction medal from me: if you want to play hard scifi you have to earn it) and the characters and their technology behave stupidly to justify the dangers they encounter.

I must stake claim that Sunshine is the best Science fiction film of the last 20 years. It's simply magnificent. The story borders on the metaphysical as it leads the viewer on a spellbinding journey into the mind. I must commend Danny Boyle on his bravery in tackling such a risk taking venture into space. With a budget of 45 million, please tell me who else could have made such a masterpiece. It's just a reflection of the talent and genius of this great director. Films like this just don't get made anymore, where you don't need a special effects extravaganza to reach for some element of quality. Don’t get me wrong, the film is spectacular in regards to special effects and space scenes, it just comes second to the gripping storyline. Most science fiction films now are based on all flash and no substance, where the special effects are over blown and over reaching in order to cover up the lack of depth and substance to the films story, script, and the director’s vision. Comparative speaking, I would rank this up there with Bladerunner, Alien, Solars, 2001:A Space Odyssey, Close Encounter of the Third Kind, and Star Wars, it's that good! This is required viewing for any serious film enthusiast. A+

In fact, the base of this movie is wrong. However, I still love watching it.
In about 5 billion years, the Sun will turn into a red giant rather than extinguishing as in the movie. It will grow in size and temperature and start eating the planets around it.
Any how, I love this movie and look forward for more movies like this.

I feel the only REAL disappointing aspect of this movie is the [very] limited release of this movie.
I agree with the comment above that Sunshine is to be put in the same inspiring category that other films such as 2001, Solaris, Blade Runner, etc have been placed in. I was pleasantly surprised by the “subliminal” frames of pictures of the lost crew. It added to the eeriness of the film and somehow supplemented the strength of the story. This film is a great piece of work and elevates [maintains?] sci-fi to a serious artform.
A great cast including a personal favorite actress Rose Byrne, due to her role in the highly underrated Damages tv series, and somewhat of a surprise casting [to me] of Michelle Yeoh.
I must admit, a layman like myself, even I could find some of the incorrect scientific aspects of the movie but unfortunately most of my favorite sci-fi films fall short similarly – can anyone explain how a creature the size of a rat can grow into something bigger than a cow in less than 24 hours?! [Alien 1979]
But I was definitely impressed with the visuals as well as the story and the fact that with such a low [sci-fi] budget of $45 mil, an impressive movie like this was created. I hope to see more films from this production team and I hope the low financial result doesn’t discourage them or any potential investors.
A+

I visited Uganda just two weeks prior to Amin's dream of disposing of all non-Ugandans'. I rented a VW beetle and drove from Kampala to Murchison Falls and returned to Kampala. Had I known what was going on , I would not have taken that trip as it was a dangerous tiimesexy lingerie to be there. I knew from talking with people, particularly, Asians, who ran most of the enterprises, that something bad was brewing in the country. In addition, nothing was running well...Hotels, transportation, restaurants, and sexy costumes factories were all affected by the Amin nationalization of business establishments...He was truly an uneducated idiot a degenerate and nasty
