I first watched this movie on my own and was moved so much I wanted to call everyone I knew and share it with them. I loved the honesty behind it. Winning the oscar for best song was just the icing on the cake - it was already a winner. I have never felt more proud to be Irish. Congratulations to all involved.

I rented this movie with my best friend and he dozed off and snored through most of it, but that didn't bother me much because I was honestly mesmerized by the feeling of it and the soothing music. I'm ADDICTED! By far one of my fave movies as of now!!!

As a legitimate geezer (age 76), my musical tastebuds were aching after seeing ONCE, the film. Couldn't wait to buy the album for my kids (40 somethings)and to encourage them to see the film. The making of this gem of a film has significantly raised the bar for all indie films to come. Equally wonderful are the lyrics and music of Glen and Mar--surprising and fresh and achingly beautiful. Stay together, you two. Your alchemy is magic! And what a coup to win Best Song Oscar! I think I can stay alive as long as you continue to make music. My life is in your hands.

Glen and Marketa, thank you for your music. It deeply impressed me. There is a great lack of such music nowadays. So fresh and natural...

Humans have a natural tendency to associate music with people. I notice that I associate certain bands/albums with those I have been involved with. Music is a huge part of my life and I've only ever dated musicians or other equally music-obsessed people, and after a break-up I can't listen to the bands we listened to together or introduced one another to. I wonder what Guy and Girl thought about the music they produced together. How did they perform those songs without emotional break-downs? Strong people.

One of the best movies I've ever seen. I saw it four times: once with myself, once with my daughter (17), once with my lady friend (40+), once with my son (20). they all loved it as much as I did, and the soundtrack is great. If you missed it on the big screen with the big speakers - shame. Buy the soundtrack. But please, see the move first!

I have recommended this film to everyone I see or speak to since I saw it
in Dec/07. I even brought it to the attention of friends living in Dublin.
They had never heard of it ! They will now ... so exciting the music won
an oscar - I had no doubt. My son purchased the CD for me for Valentines
day - I listen to it every day.

I generally watch a movie hoping for one of two things. I either want to be moved, or to be entertained. I have had the great honor to have seen some movie capable of giving me both things. ONCE is one of them. Certainly in a world with eyes open this movie will receive the Best Foreign Film Oscar, as well as Best Original Sound Track and Best Song (you pick one over the other, I cannot). My gratitude for this effort is boundless.

"ONCE" is a smooth, simple, deep and touching picture. Two thumbs up for John Carney! A bit of Woody Allen and a bit of Richard Linklate have made such a great output. Huge screenplay and huge cinematography!

This movie captured me in so many ways, I left the theater saying "wow" over and over to myself. movie making simple brilliance.

There are so many scenes that stand out:
1. The way to deal with a thief and retain your humanity
2. The Say It To Me Now cry from the heart
3. The meeting when we discover the enchanting girl
4. The first BIG one - Falling Slowly - but it's fast..we're already in love
5. The second BIG one- the recording studio - When Your Mind's Made Up
6. The third BIG one - the beach at sunrise
7. One of my favorite's - the DAD - OMG he was wonderful
8. The invitation back to his place after the recording session
9. Oh that ending - perfect and sweet and haunting all at once!!!
Joint 10 - the humor - loan officer at bank singing and the "You're gorgeous" comment
What a film - I want to add more
11. the montage to this tune of course that warmed our hearts. No wonder I've fallen in love with it. It was perfect - every moment of it!!!
OMG - I can't believe I forgot their trip to the ocean view. Thank you guys for making this work of wonder.

I listen to these songs almost every day- I also love that you can listen to almost all of them for free- I love this movie
Anonymous | February 4th, 2008 12:11
The best film I've seen in years. I was captivated by the music and the chemistry between the two of them. It's all I've thought about for over a week. Can't help but tell everyone how touching this film is. With all the ugliness that we contend with day in and day out, this film reafirms my faith in mankind. There is beauty in the world and "Once" is proof of it.

the best irish film ever

Congratulations on the well-deserved Academy Award. This is a fantastic piece of art and deserved that recognition and more. Well done and thanks to those that made it happen.

What an amazing movie! From an fierce movie critic who seems to be entertained by so little anymore from the Hollywood movie factory, I am further reassured that independent films are what is saving this industry. This film has quickly risen to the top of my inde list as one of my all time favorites. And now to win an academy award for Falling Slowly - beating out the corporate giant in a sea of Disney songs, ever better! Congrats to everyone involved in 'Once' - you all have so much to be incredibly proud of!!

HOW BEAUTIFUL you are! I haven't watch the film "ONCE" yet; but I listened to these all songs and the winner song too, THIS IS WONDERFUL, congratulations! You did great! As soon as possible I will watch the film too, but be sure your songs fascinated me , brought a wonderful touches of love and beauty, especially in these hard days of the world. THANK YOU, thank you, thank you... nia

I too saw this film in December and was so impressed. Filmed with very little money, small cameras, and in three weeks. Wow, it doesn't get any better than this. I sent this website out to ALL of my friends and asked that they at least take a moment to listen. The best part of the Oscars was seeing them win and for letting Marketa come back to share her thank you's. One comment that was shared when I saw the movie for the first time, and this does not ruin the movie for anyone who has not seen it, is the scene by the river and he asks her a question. She answers in Czech, it is never translated, but her response is, "I love you." Knowing that gave me a very different slant on the movie and I think it's an important point. Or not. Knowing the two of them are a couple now makes it that much better. Thank you to all involved in this movie. I don't know how it could have been any better!

The whole flavor of this move; the people, the settings, the music, the camera angles, the lighting, everything fit. Hands down, this is my favorite movie. One to watch again and again, to feel that ache of adoration, and bitter sweet love. His act of giving her the piano was such an amazing gift of tenderness, care and respect. Glen loved her enough to let her go, he respected her commitment while showing her how much he treasured her. The gift was also a powerfully romantic way of saying "thanks for touching my life in such a momentous way." Amazing. Thank you.

Can I tell you what the song falling has done to me.
My mother is passing away from dementia day by day I see her and
I want her boat to go home..She has had enough war.
Thank you Glen and Marketa I want to hug you for giving me some kind of HOPE.

Who gives her the piano? Watch again. There's more in the film that you catch on a second or third watch. HE gives her the piano - he goes into the music store again, when some yutz, such as myself, is playing a guitar and says to the counter guy, "Can I talk to you a moment?" He borrows the "200 quid" from his Dad. We are to infer that he asked the counter guy to have the piano delivered. Wow, no sex, and she still gets a piano. Is that sweet or what?

Has anyone ever seen the house where the financial overseer lived in at the bend of the Nile? The landscape was trimmed to look like the animals of the forrest. The floors had beautiful hand laid tile.sexy lingerie At night the servamts went to their houses out back, and the dogs were released for the dog run in front of those houses to keep the slaves inside their houses. Let's be real, the sexy costumescolonizers left behind brutal people who carried out their responsibilities with sometimes brutality of unimaginable cruelty. Also, why did the Hebrews want to go to Uganda instead of Palestine but the Balfour ...oh well, let's wait until after the Oscars are over.to share again. Poor Mr. Amin, who wanted so much more for his people. Maybe a part 2 will be made.
