I couldn't believe how honest this film was as I was watching it...It was late and I was alone when I watched it, and it caused such bittersweet heartache. I can only just barely believe the great storytelling and the emotion that Marketa and Glen were able to translate into the film.

Fucking brilliant (as 'guy' said in the movie many times), but truly fucking pure, honest, amazing, and beautiful. I only wish all people could feel what I felt watching this, I think the world would be so peaceful.

I happened to watch this film purely by accident. I was walking through my local video store and saw it on the bottom shelf and the cover picture looked simple and it attracted me. I read the back of the case and decided to take a chance and watch this film. I have to take more chances from now on. This film has become my alltime favorite! This is the kind of love story that everyone needs to see and learn from and appreciate. The music, the actors/musicians, the scenery, everything made this film "happen" for me and I am truly grateful to everyone who created this piece of art. Thank you.

I don't think it was ever mention how much they received in the loan, but the previously mentioned two sources probably covered the studio, the piano, and gave him some money for his trip to London. He was heading to London at the end, and "girl's" husband is in the apartment in the last scene when she's playing the piano (he's playing with the baby). The bus may be an allusion, but far more likely that it was just an unexpected real world event.

Aside from how it was done in general (F*ing brilliant, to quote the father) or how great of a love story it is (truly amazing), the beauty and truth found in this movie by any musician is unbelievable. Truly one of the best I've ever seen.

Brilliant film. Seems to be a very simple story but has magical power. The music is also great.
And for those who have problems with Czech used in the scene by the ocean. He asked her if she loves her husband. She says: "No. I love YOU"

i was at araplies (melbourne) doing some rock climbing...(wait...its getting to the movie!) and it rained during one of the days...so we headed down to the nearest town (horsham?)and decided to catch a movie. As it was the only movie that as showing at the time, we decided to catch it. A movie none of us heard b4.

Once

as soon as the movie started i lean forward and was capture by the music lyrics from the first song to the last. you can really see the passion on his face and sense the strongness of his singing voice. Its deep..really. cant believe our luck that we were able to catch a movie that will last quite a whil;e i must say in our heads...at least mine.

and ONce again, i was able to cath it on the plane from melbourne to Singpore...but after watching the movie ONCE, the following 2-3 times, i just fast forward to the songs...its beautiful. I even try to get the gal sitting next to me to watch the movie...

It is no doubt one of the best movie i have ever watched, the simple story line about passion, love and street survival, totally intriguing just to follow the flow of the movie.

Didnt expect it to be so captivating when i watched it on the plane from Singapore to New York, that i unbelievingly watched it 3 times in total.
What reminds me is the music,lyrics,the compassion for the love in translation to a beautiful story.

It could also have been my experience in Ireland some 3-4 years ago, that i felt some sort of connection with the Irish film and familar streets...

Highly recommended and mesmorising..

Please, please; no sequel. It would be superfluous, like gilding a lily. It's already perfect. It would only spoil it. Once is just right.

But do make more love stories with no sex in them. How refreshing, and how lovely it was.

I play the Mendelssohn (very badly) at home and couldn't believe it when she started playing it. His awed reaction was perfect. I was the only person in the cinema who laughed when he asked her if she had written it. But then they're all Philistines in Manchester.

I saw the film and it was wonderful. But it is the music that has me spell bound. I can't get enough of it. The emotion, the pation. It is real life, raw and full of surprises!

I've seen the film twice and loved it each time. It's raw and tender, and so genuine, it makes me ache. Terrific fantastic music. What talent, what joy, and I don't think a film has been made that so honestly describes creating art or music. I'm not sure that I want to see a sequel--let the magic hover in our consciousness and nourish our hearts and souls.

Saw the movie last night ...... stunned by a simple storey told perfectly to the music the two lead actors/musicians wrote and performed, and what raw powerful yet totally truthful music. If it does not touch your heart at its very core ....... you must be DEAD ! Without doubt the best movie of 2008 and then some !
