Cultural, but universal. I'm a "white mutt" and also relate to and appreciate Lahiri's beautiful writing; it's certainly done justice in this film. It makes you appreciate your parents and those you love, in spite of what kind of family you may come from. I cried for the first time in ages while watching this . . . tears of passion!
