Jhumpa Lahiri is one of the most boring, sedate writers ever. She is awful. Her central characters are horrible too. They lead such watered-down inner lives and I almost feel sorry for them.
Reading 'The Namesuck' made me want to gouge my eyes out. In fact, it inspired me to imagine a caricature that some literary magazine must bring out: Jhumpa Lahiri, Arundhati Roy, and Kiran Desai with bald heads, attacking RK Laxman's 'Common Man' with tridents, while Naipaul looks down from the sky as Zeus.
There is so much talent in this country and I am appalled that rotten writers like 'Jumped-Up' Lahiri masquerade as masters of the craft (masters of the daft, more like).
