This film was so profound. As a Black woman with Indian ties, I could relate to Gogol. I hated my name, but I was named for my father since no male children bore his name- but I am a woman. So I had to live with teasing of my name. When I expressed my desire to change my name to a suitable, mor feminine name; my father was crushed. My father dies like Gogol's father and I had so many regrets, as well. I laughed when Ashima and Ashoke met. I cried and felt for Ashima when Ashoke died. I LOVED this movie as I love all of Mira Nair's films. GREAT JOB!
