If you haven't seen "The Wrestler" I implore you to do so. I saw it the other night and thought it was mesmerizing. Rourke's completely honest performance along with Aronofsky's "Cinéma vérité" approach makes it seem as though you are watching a documentary about an actual person rather than an film with an actor playing a character. Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood are of course excellent in their supporting roles, however the movie is by and large Mickey. Or should I say, "The Ram." In the The Hollywood Reporter's "Actors Roundtable" sexy lingerie conversations Mickey commented on how he had to really fight to get to use the hearing aid in the development of the character. He said in the end Aronofsky allowed him to use it. I felt that sexy costumes the battered looking, old school hearing aid was crucial to understanding the charter. I have always love Mickey Rourke I think this man has been thru alot of soul searching and, hasn't bedroom furniture had an easy road. I also think he is one of the finest actors I ever watch !!!When does something it comes out real; you forget he's acting. I wish him as always the best!! I hope he has found peace
