We are pure Indian of the Saraswati Brahmin caste who were converted to Catholicism in the 1600's by the portuguese who were in Goa at the time. Being of Brahmin descent, it was strictly forbidden to mingle with Portuguese. When the Portuguese tried to impose their Christian behaviours and dress on the Brahmin population there, the Saraswati Brahmins along with their converted Catholic Brahmins moved to the Mangalore area of Karnataka, and set up a very thriving community which still exists to this day. We are 100% Catholic Brahmins and very proud of it.
