I think that you guys are discounting Survivor. I think that is one of his best works. I was actually not a big fan of Diary. It was good, but placed next to Survivor, Choke, and Lullaby I felt it just didn't measure up. In my opinion, Chuck is grinding out books too fast. One a year doesn't give him the time to make it truly amazing. Choke for example was good, but had he allowed himslef to spend some time with it, it could have been amazing. Once again, ALL of his books are great, but his earlier books are the things that will infect your brain with a different perspective that he hasn't been able to repeat recently. In my opinion, Haunted was great and was an exception to this. The sheer madness that people put themselves through is portrayed in this book in a way that no one else could do. Chuck has opened my eyes to a whole other genre of fiction and led me to hunt down other authors who display the world in a similar fashion and offer a cutting social commentary in such a way that it forces you to view the way you interact with your world view in a completely different fashion. Or you could just read a story that freaks you out and miss the point... I for one feel the later is a shame, but unfortunately it is happening more and more with the addition of his movie credits. Not that the movies are a bad thing. It is going to introduce his work to more "thinking" people for years to come.
