I'm disturbed by how we all make judgments about other cultures and assume we are right. Our answer may make sense in OUR culture but take it out of context and we expose our own dysfunctions. I found it disturbing seeing the people of Uganda americanized. It really exposed the idea of American priorities and what we place value in. The hairstyles, cars, singing, fashion, etc. which mimic the American way seem out of place within that culture. I cant imagine that living in Uganda and being surrounded by death, starvation, and disease, people would be concerned with “American” concerns like fashion... yet they are.... how messed up is that?
I think that Idi Amin's obsession with the American culture parallels the Americas obsession with themselves. The doctor was a victim to it in this film as well. He chose to leave the poor people of Uganda for a more comfortable lifestyle where the poor was brushed under the carpet. The American culture is so preoccupied with it's own wellbeing they forget to look around and see how there actions or non actions effect the rest of the world.
P.S Palestine, Israel, and religion in general are not the cause of the worlds turmoil and chaos. Think outside the box.
