I saw the movie today and have read both of Jhumpa Lahiri's books, so I had high expectations. I am also a doctoral student in NYC so it was nice to get a sense of the city I am in as well in the movie, though that was unexpected given the books' location in Mass. I wanted to applaud the actors and actresses for bringing to life the dynamic characters. I don't think they could have cast better people, and you are all worthy of praise. It is also nice to finally see a story about Indian Americans and the acculturation stress that accompanies immigrants and children of immigrants. It was beautiful seeing my own, my relatives', and friends' experiences validated and visible in mainstream culture for the first time. I went to see the movie in Times Square and there were hardly any seats in the packed theater! I was proud. Keep up the good work! Namaste.
