Darren Aronofsky was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. His latest film THE WRESTLER premiered at this year’s Venice Film Festival where it won the esteemed Golden Lion. It is only the third American film in history to win this grand prize. One day later it was acquired by Fox Searchlight hours after its gala screening at the Toronto Film Festival.
Aronofsky’s previous feature, THE FOUNTAIN, a science-fiction romance which he wrote and directed, starred Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. MTV’s Kurt Loder called the film “a classic; dazzling and visually intoxicating” and Glenn Kenny from Premiere stated that THE FOUNTAIN “may well restore your faith in the idea that a movie can take you out of the mundane and into a place of wonderment.”
In 1999, Aronofsky premiered REQUIEM FOR A DREAM at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was named to over 150 Top Ten lists of 2000 including the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly and the American Film Institute. The accolades continued with five Independent Spirit Award nominations, including one for Best Director and a win for Best Actress Ellen Burstyn. Burstyn also received Golden Globe and Academy Award® nominations for her stunning performance.
Aronofsky’s premier feature, ?, won the Director’s Award at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival and an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay.
In 2001, the American Film Institute honored Aronofsky with the prestigious Franklin J. Schaffner Alumni Medal. In 2007, the Stockholm Film Festival awarded Aronofsky the Golden Horse Visionary Award.
Dear Mr. Aronofsky,
I am a 21-year-old writer from Santa Cruz, CA. I have just seen the movie Adam and loved it. I also saw your movie The Wrestler a few months ago in theaters and loved it. I have just completed my story to an Adam sequel, in which he and his love interest from the first film do end up together. It just took a little while. I am also trying to contact Max Mayer the original director of the first to film to consider this idea. The story takes places years after the events of the first film and Adam and Beth are married and have an eight year old son who like his father has Asperger Syndrome. We are also introduced to a young psychiatrist named Dr. John Turner who is Adam's son's therapist. However, John Turner is just as complicated as Adam and has the same condition, he is just in denial about. This story covers three aspects of Asperger Syndrome that the first film didn't; growing up with Asperger Syndrome, being married to someone with Asperger Syndrome, and in the case of Dr. John Turner, admitting you have Asperger Syndrome. My story provides a unique amount of insight to Asperger Syndrome, because like the character Adam I also have it. I firmly believe that there has to be a sequel, because there is so much more storytelling potential about this fascinating subject. I also think it will provide hope to an audience of people like me that there is in fact hope and light at the end of the tunnell. We need to actually see the character of Adam Raki succeed in his social life. I really think you or Max Mayer will do my story justice, please consider.
