Acclaimed screenwriter and director David Ayer moved to the mean streets of L.A. as a teenager. The experiences of his youth helped shape his artistic vision, and his inside knowledge and affection for the culture of Los Angeles can be seen throughout his work.

At 18, David joined the United States Navy, where he served as sonar man aboard a nuclear attack submarine during the Cold War. After an honorable discharge, David began writing. He wrote and was a co-producer on his "calling card" spec script TRAINING DAY which became a hit film and garnered Denzel Washington an Academy Award for Best Actor.

Ayer co-wrote the submarine thriller U-571, starring Matthew McConaughey, Bill Paxton and Harvey Keitel. Other writing credits include, THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS, starring Paul Walker and Vin Deisel, S.W.A.T., starring Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Farrell, and DARK BLUE, starring Kurt Russell. Ayer made his directorial debut with his original screenplay HARSH TIMES. The gritty drama, starring Christian Bale and Freddy Rodriguez, was released in the fall of 2006. David is currently working on various projects in development at Warner Brothers, Paramount and Universal.
He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and children.

Mr Ayer,
I have five completed manuscripts, but I want to give you a look into a couple of pages of only one entitled "Shadow Killer," and see what you think.

(1877) Alone. Alone, loss, and afraid. Crow foot, a six year old indian cub from a peaceful Cheyenne tribe that was soon to be totally destroyed by the townfolk of Bogan County Tx.

Black Eagle, once a strong, fierce chief whose mind had become dull, his keen eagle vision blurred, and his perfectly conditioned body numb from too many battles and age. His thought was of buffalo when he felt the tremor, it would mean food and clothing for the coming winter. Little did he know that winter would never come again to him or the tribe.

Women, children, young and old were being mercilessly murdered, cut down by rifle and pistol fire, bodies falling like mating eagles from the sky. Death was everywhere, not one horse, dog, or live indian survived. The townfolk, having quenched their thirst for death rode off laughing and cursing, proud of their murderous deed.

Several hours had passed, and as the smell of death carried its pungent odor across the village Black Eagle lay mortally wounded, and with a part of his mind that could still reason, he managed to drag himself and maneuver his half lifeless body to a sitting position with his back against a boulder.

Drifting back and forth into unconsciousness he mentally summoned his brothers the wolves
from beyond the hills. His mind wanted to let go, but his indomitable will fought against it. He chanted a prayer to the supreme diety of the wolf who mothered him when his own mother died in child birth deep within the forest, his father, Iron Knife, racked with grief and taking his own life when he found the lifeless body of his wife and no sign of the child.

Give me a little of your strength he cried, bear me up until my avengers come, I beseech you, mother wolf, do this for your dying son.
He knew his prayers had been answered when he felt a warm tongue lapping his wounds and turned to look into the cold black eyes of a great wolf whose size almost doubled that of any other.

Listen to me, oh great one. Search the bodies of the tribe, and if you find one among them alive, take him, nourish him to health among you, free and in peace. But, if not one living can be found among them, avenge this slaughter of your people until the wolf no longer walks the face of this earth, and after having uttered those words, Black Eagle died.

A band of Comanche had raided ranches, killing, burning, taking women captive had caused the townfolk of Bogan County to believe that the tribe of Cheyenne they killed had been the cause.

Much further into the story, each month at midnight on the anniversary of the slaughter, howling would be heard for exactly one hour. Each month like clockwork it would occur, and each day that followed there would be reports of families being found mauled and torn apart. Men, women, and children.

The story goes up to 98 yr's later when the great, great grandson of the indian boy the wolves raised realizes why all those deaths occurred throughout some many years, and when the wolves also realized this, the killing ended in the Valley of Death.

Wow! Can I have a chance to smoke you out and watch "Harsh Times".

(I cry everytime)

Lt. Castillo - U.S.A

Hi Mr. Ayer,
My name is Theo Lopez de Castilla and I am a 15 year old hispanic-canadian. I have a dream of being in a movie about a young latin teenager who grows up around the latin gang culture and is exposed to violence 24/7. The young boy doesn't want to follow the path that his brother, father and fellow friends have taken. I am writing this because I have realized that most of your films are based in Los Angeles and after watching some of my favorite movies such as "Training Day" and "The Fast and The Furious" that you really understand the culture of the latino gangsters. I really believe that this vision and dream I have can be made with the help of your skill, knowledge and talent.

If you care to hear more about this idea I would greatly appreciate if you could contact me at: theolc@hotmail.com
or by phone at: 1-613-882-7597

Absolut Planas.

ABSOLUT PLANAS is on the back cover of the 2/99 issue of OUT magazine and The Advocate.
This new ad (copyright 1998) features artwork by Jon Planas. A giant peace symbol is presented on a background of yellow and purple; white clouds in a blue sky fill the border of the symbol and the inverted Y in the center of the symbol. The head of a pink skinned man is separated by the "top" of the Y. Below the bottom of the Y is a drawing of an Absolut bottle with red roses all around. Printed on the bottle are the words ABSOLUT PEACE, with the male and female symbols just below. A rainbow of colors is used as a reference to the Gay Rainbow colors seen throughout the ad.

Hello Mr. Ayer

I'm a 26 year old Chicano born and raised in Los Angeles. Im currently taking a telecommunications course at a local college and im studying the business. I've noticed a lot of your best work is based in Los Angeles and is pretty accurate. What I mean is you do a really good job on telling it how it is out here. I have some real good ideas for you if you care to hear them, which I hope you do. Some "based on a true story" type ideas. Anyway I wouldn't post these on here for everyone to read. I hope you actually see these messages. And I hope you are interested in listening to what I have in mind for you. It won't cost you a thing to send an email. Hit me up.

"Hostile Takeover"

It begins in the heart of South Central L.A. Two black college students home, for summer break. Pull up to the liquor store, to grab a case of beers to celebrate. On their way to the counter two guys rush in, faces covered with black bandannas.

Then, drew their guns and demanded the money. One robber checked the back and caught the clerk’s daughter on the phone with 911. They got the money, shot the clerk, and ran. The two college students run out minutes after and hop in the car. As the driver turns the ignition two officers run up and point guns to the window.

The driver reaches for his I.D and the officers shoot instantly. The officers were tried in court for manslaughter and were found not guilty. While watching the verdict the driver’s brother Face-mob, who was a notorious gang leader Of the Black Gorilla Squad.

Hatched a plan for revenge, so he called upon the Latino gang (Los Santos') to declare peace and meet. As the two gangs met up. Face-mob spoke about how the cops have been killing them off for years. From Sean-Bell to Rudolfo Cárdenas to his brother. Then, a week later in down town L.A at Echo Park.

The police academy held their graduation ceremony. As they all stood and saluted, four minivans pull up on the grass. Black and Latino males with ski masks jump out with assault rifles and fire. At the station officers received calls and ran out to their vehicles. As soon as they turned the ignition their cars exploded.

Days later Face-mob paid a junkie to blame the guys who robbed the liquor store for the shooting. Without asking questions the blood thirsty cops ride out and bust down the guys door and killed them. While Face-mob had someone record it all outside.

After the video appeared on You-tube the cops were tried and sentence to life in prison. Evidence turned up that the guys were in a holding cell during the massacre. So, their families sued for millions. With the law afraid for their lives and for being sued. The Black Gorilla Squad and the Los Santos' gang took over the streets.

Now it’s up to one ex-cop to infiltrate them and bring them down. Who quit the force after a hostage sitaution gone wrong. Unauthorized and without help. He’s motivated by vengeance for his brother, who was killed at the ceremony. To once and for all stop this Hostile Takeover…
