I don't think this film was a waste. What it was portraying was un-sweetened, flawed humanity. It is an unapologizing display of four people as only human: mixed up and messed up and needy and unkind and loving and forgiving and weak. That might seem depressing, and maybe it just isn't what you look for in film, but I liked it. Within the truth of humans being very flawed creatures lies the greater truth that we can still be ok to each other and ok within ourselves. All four characters redeemed themselves in the film in one way or other. But maybe I just like the music.
