Again, Check Back for Updates
On Drew's Coming Appearances!

I saw this posted on a message board...hope it's okay that I share without asking the person first, but this might have some more explanation as to what happened at the Whip It "meet and get stuck in the rain" event in Dallas.

Everyone should call, write and complain to the Kidd Kraddick show:

"My friend Eric Shirey of MovieGeekFeed.com was there as press and was equally upset. Poor organization and selfish press folks ruined it for all the fans there, he said. He said the Channel 21 girl made everyone wait so they could do a live shot on the Red Carpet with Drew, but he said the worst part came when the guy from Kidd Kraddick's show sucked up everyone's time by insisting Drew re-enact a scene from 50 First Dates with him. He said after those two idiots, there was no time left for all the wet fans to meet her. He never even got to ask a question of her himself. He is going to rant about the thing tomorrow on the site. "

I found these pics...so I think the dude that wasted so much time might be J-Si?

I am just curious as to when Kiss FM became the all and mighty of media?! Seriously, I took one look at the line, and decided to wait inside for the movie. My children really wanted Drew's autograph, but the movie was the reason I was there. I apparently made the better choice, because I was one of the last few allowed in the theater. The film was heartwarming, and probably the best film enviroment there, I felt I was with family. I play derby for a local league and know first hand that we tried our hardest to go out there and promote derby. For us this was an opportunity to let others know about us "alternative" athletes. Drew seemed very sincere during the Q & A after the movie, but pressed for time. I had a weird feeling she was under the weather. Alot of the derby girls caught cold to go out there and support what we love, our sport, which has become some of our's lifelines. The best part of the whole experience with Kiss FM, was listening to them this morning making fun of Drew with backhanded compliments. So now, not only are they the Nazi's of who gets in to see stars and get autographs, controlling every last minute with Drew; but they apparently are jerks as well. What I learned from this experiance is that Kiss FM is a big joke. No wonder I never listen to that crap. Please everyone, come support the local derby leagues and know that derby is about connecting, finding what makes you tick, who you are, and builds a better you. We have many leagues right here in the Dallas Area.

Dallas Derby Devils and Assasination City Roller Derby are both the Women's Flat Track Roller Derby here in Dallas
Dallas Deception is the Men's Flat Track Roller Derby
and now, Dallas Delinquent is Flat Track for kids ages 11-17

Please don't let this experience change your mind of anything except for Kiss FM, they were the bad guys here.

Thanks,
AK

i will follow ur links to post all out how bad my experience was last night in dallas. i hope something gets done because i feel robbed. i was so excited, ive never met a celebrity before and i guess since we were told if we got a wrist band we were guaranteed the meet and greet with drew i was naieve enough to believe fox searchlight and kiss fm and whoever else was running that horrible joke of an event...its sad when they turned all us fans away but then inside drew was taking photos with the urban outfitters staff and even the photographer took a shot with her...it showed me how important her fans really are to her...and did anybody hear her joke of an interview on kiss fm this morning??? im very disappointed in drew and everyone involved last night.

i wanna know who i email to talk to about the dallas event. how we were treated was not right. something needs to be done. i think i am still in shock over wasting 5 hours of my day sitting in the rain only to be treated like that...

I'm surprised that no one really booed or shouted at security like the one guy who said he had been there since noon. I actually wanted to see the movie more so then getting Drews autograph, didn't really care for it. But my Derby girls wanted to meet her so we stood in line since 3pm, I was there at 3:45.
Should have gone with my gut that nothing would happen. Read a comment on here not to bother and agreed with it. Too bad I was in the wrong line, should have tried to see the movie instead. :(
I agree that wristbands should be mailed in to receive a free ticket. This movie will do great I am sure, but if the fans in Dallas are not pleased then all Hell will break loose! You do not mess with Derby Girl's!!!!

I AGREE! They need to give us an address to mail our wristbands then MAIL us a movie ticket for EACH wristband we mail in....It's the LEAST they could do!

Julie B.
Dallas

There as well last nite, was probably #30ish in line and left empty handed after hours of standing in line like everyone else below. A total mess and massive joke. People were allowed to cut in line of people who'd been there for hours.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME GOING TO THESE EVENTS!

We were given wristbands (around 30 or 40th person in line) and were in THE RAIN FOR 6 HOURS only to be turned away once the news cameras left. they only allowed radio contest winners and the press inside for the meet and greet. it was just a publicity stunt that has left a bad taste in my mouth from fox searchlight and drew barrymore.

this is not how fans should be treated. especially if you are trying to promote something.

i have nothing to show for my entire day spent in the rain except for a cold :(

the dallas event was a disaster! do not waste your time going to foxsearchlight events. they devoted the entire time to press and some radio contest winners instead of the fans with wristbands to the meet and greet. we waited in line over 6 hours in the rain. if you are promoting a movie, you should care about your fans. we were turned away without any remorse. i dont even wanna see the movie now and i will spread the word about how much drew barrymore and foxsearchlight care about their fanbase. thanks for nothing.

I waited in line for 6 hours in the rain outside the urban outfitters only to be turned away with the rest of the line. not only was drew late, but they allowed for press interviews and 20 kiss fm contest winnners to enter first before our line started. i was only the 30th person in line, they cut the line off 5 people in front of me. what was the point of passing out wristbands and waiting in the rain for 6 hours if i wasn't going to get to do the meet and greet? i had tickets to go see the screening with the q&a after, but since i was in line for the meet and greet could not get my wristband for that (going on at the same time) i would have liked to see the movie but thought it would be more exciting to meet drew herself. to console us fans who had wasted our entire day, they gave us posters they had been passing out all day anyways. why couldnt they have had the q@a start late since drew made the meet and greet start an hour late? or why couldnt she take an extra 20 min. to sign 75 posters inside then pass them out in line. it wouldnt have been the same as meeting her, but atleast i would have gotten my autograph. i have nothing to show for my 6 hours devoted in the rain. thanks for nothing fox searchlight. it makes me sad because i have always been a huge supporter of your company and see all yalls movies...i will not pay to see whip it. i do not want any of my money to fund your shitty company who screws over its fans.

I'm SO GLAD to see that so many people are starting to share their stories of the horrible waste of time so many of us went through.

Please email and comment as many places as possible and MAYBE we could AT LEAST get free movie tickets?

My husband and I stood IN THE RAIN today for 5 hours! We got wristbands then when it was FINALLY time to go inside for autographs, all but 15 PEOPLE were turned down. If you only had time to let 15 people in for autographs, then only hand out 15 wristbands and don't waste people's time. You are trying to promote a movie to people to make them WANT to see it, but you succeeded in making so many people mad. I have such a bad taste in my mouth after today that I don't even care about the movie anymore...and get this...I am a DERBY GIRL!

We should AT LEAST get FREE movie tickets for standing in the rain so long and the media people that told us to leave did not even care. I guess you don't care about the people that make your job possible...without people, your promotional efforts would all be for nothing. Without people, who would watch your movies.

I too was at the meet and greet in Dallas, had a wrist band, stood in the rain for five hours and got turned away. Very, very disappointed to say the least! And so were the people around me. Don't think I'll go to another meet and greet ever. Very poorly planned. Wish I had read "Don't Bother" five messages below before wasting my evening. Drew can't be blamed i suppose, it's a business, i still will see her movies. Just was very disappointed with the whole evening having waited so long in the rain. On the upside Julie, I had no idea Dallas had such a huge roller derby following and so many teams, maybe i'll come see a real roller derby instead of the movie!

I know you say Drew Barrymore cannot be blamed, but I think she coudl have made an effort. There are several things she could have doen as a person and given everyone the chance to go home a little bit happier.
1. Probably not a fun option since it was cold and rainy, but they could have announced that she had to go to a q and a at the movie....and told everyone to go somewhere dry, and that after the q and A she would stay and and sign for everyone with a wrist band.
2. Another idea, if she knew they were running late...just cancel the signing, no one can even walk in the store, shake hands or anything....but make an effort...take 20 minutes and go through a stack of her mini movie posters and sign enough of those while sitting alone at a table....then just give everyone with a wristband a signed poster so they go away with something. That would take 20 minutes or so.

You really can't hold her responsible, but I don't think she made much of an effort either.

I completely agree!

I am mostly angry at the event organizers, BUT i was saying the same thing, just sign a stack of those posters for people with wristbands! It wouldnt have been as nice as the supposed "meet and greet" scheduled but i would have been alot happier than leaving empty handed....even though she wasnt in complete control of the organization, im sure she has some sort of power over what she does, she could have stood up for her fans and said something. even maybe make the Q&A start later (and she could have signed as many posters as possible in that time with evryone outside and not crowding her)since she had the meet and greet start an hour late by arriving late due to the "weather"...i was so mad about that! dont talk to me about the weather, i stood outside in it for 6 hours to meet you! ugh

Hey, anyone who's been to an event... How was the line for the wrist bands? How early do you advise getting in line??

Don't even bother if you aren't at least the 15th person in line. My husband and I stood for 5 HOURS in the rain today and we were turned down. We were about the 54th and 55th person in line.

It's a promotional stunt. They had cameras on us outside the WHOLE time taking footage of the long line. They used us for their gain...we wasted a whole day with NOTHING to show for it.

They did a horrible job.

agreed! the dallas event was a huge stunt. they only ended up allowing the press and 20 kiss fm contest winners inside while they got tons of great footage of excited fans waiting outside in the rain for 6 hours. if only they would have had the cameras out when they turned the whole line away, but they made sure the news cameras were gone when that happened. so much for making me really wanna see whip it...

I totally agree....this was just a stunt to get good footage of lots of people in line and drum up hype for the TV cameras. I don't believe there was ever any intention of getting all the people with wristbands through the line. I have heard that one of teh other cities had a very similar experience.

Don't waste your time.

COME TO MAUI!!!!!!

I agree with Drew's Diva like behaviour. She was just in town for TIFF 09. I met a couple of people from MI who said she wasn't very nice in person. Also, she had 3 scheduled TV interviews with live audiences and she was at least an hour wait for each one! Girl get off your "high-horse", you need to start playing "mother roles" just like Demi

Really? Have you ever been on any kind of press tour? Do you know how many people want a pic with her or to meet her, there is just no way. Be appreciative for what she is doing for our sport and stop acting like a bitter little girl. We met her and she has been to a few of our bouts, very down to earth, just there with a few friends and kept a low profile. And the comment about "mom roles" I'm a mom, just about Drew's age and I will kick your ass on the track!

I wouldn't waste your time anticipating and getting your hopes too high to meet DREW! Totally unapproachable. Diva-like attitude, and RUDE ENTOURAGE!

She was in LA and was totally nice.
