"The Wrestler" was screened on Venice Film Festival and walked off with the Golden Lion award for Best Picture. Mickey Rourke also would have walked off as Best Actor if the Venice jury chairman, director Wim Wenders, had had his way but Wenders' vigorous campaigning could not topple a longstanding festival rule which insists that one film is not allowed to win both awards.

To The dude who was crying about the Ram "not traveling around" and "at the same strip club watching an looking at an ugly stripper"- are you a Homosexual???? Marisa Tomei is BEAUTIFUL! He exposing her breasts was one of the real bonuses of this great flick to me. I love me some Marisa Tomei.
This is a great movie and probably one of the grittier and sadder films in quite some time.

Great work Mickey, you too Marisa, stay sexy toots.

I would not say that Biggie was the best MC in the entire history of hip hop, but he certainly repped hip hop and Brooklyn to the fullest when he was alive. There are so many great MC's that came from NYC in general, after all we started this back in sexy lingerie the 70's. He was among the best to come from Brooklyn in a long time, because before him the only other rapper to go hard and smooth lyrically was Big Daddy Kane. Tupac was a great rapper in his own right ,but as stated wholesale lingerie this is about Biggie ,and the upcoming movie, which I will be going to see when it drops even though I am no longer in Brooklyn NY. Stop trying to make everything a competition between Pac and Biggie. They were friends at 1 time.

couldve one longer video rather than small clips, obviously done to make people watch all bits.

Was good for what it was but couldve been a lot better.

What a moronic comment. These are wrestlers, knowing the moves is going to impress these guys. I've read reviews from two of the guys in the round table and they mirror what's being said here. They all loved the movie! Btw jackass, they are probably only showing clips because they want to use the entire thing as an add-on for the DVD and already seeing the whole thing would decrease it's value. Idiot

For anyone who's seen the movie I'd think we'd agree, the Ram could've been any number of wrestlers we saw when we were kids: Hall, Sheik, Tito, Graham, etc. Great movie, great story, great acting.

The movie friggin' Sux. The two matches in the film were garbage. The first consisted of zero wrestling technique, just moronic torture pain. And the second match just made wrestling appear real cheezy. And why did we have to see the same strip club with the same ugly woman stripping? Wrestlers travel around so why the same damn strip club. Rourke was fine as a dramatic actor and for building up muscles but as for wrestling ability between him and Ayatollah, they sux!

did you seriously go into this movie looking for 5 star matches with an actor and ernest the cat miller? really? did you ever watch a wcw pay per view with celebrity wrestlers? your reviewing a movie based on the wrestling ability in it? wrestling IS cheesy its part of the appeal... dear god my brain hurts.....

Go rent a Wrestlemania video if you are looking to watch matches. This movie is about what happens after the spotlight goes out.

And indy shots take place on the weekend, so of course Randy had to find a place to hang out on weeknights. Wrestlers don't "travel around" unless they're with WWE. Otherwise, they take as many dates as they can, and do their other life inbetween.

I mean its a good movie but its no Grunt The Wrestling Movie, No Holds Barred, or even the classic I Like to Hurt People. Nice try though!

You're right. Whereas 'The Wrestler' won two Golden Globes; those three pieces of shit can't be found anywhere on the globe.

If your taste in movies was anymore bland, you'd be a 'Arby's'.

Awesome MOvie
Great Moive really emotiional made me look for some of those classic guys like jake poor jake the snake with his meltdown its guys like that this movie is dedicated to the wreslters with nothing left to prove to any but themselves... Ram Jam 4 Life lol...

the interviewer asked the worst questions ever! what a freakin puff piece. he had the REAL people to ask questions. what a waste of time. i would pay money to have those same people in the room to ask them how they felt. who cares if mickey learned the moves. not important to the story of "the wrestler." they could have done without the last match entirely and told the story of "the wrestler." garbage puff piece. thanks for nothing!

He's trying to promote the movie, jackass. What were you expecting?

Anonymous | January 18th, 2009 19:16

I just watched the movie for a third time. It just keeps getting better. Hyperbole aside, it's one of the most honest and heartbreaking film I've ever seen.

I used to ref indy weekend spots. Greg Valentine was actually on one of the first ones I did. The whole time watching the movie I thought of him (though Greg is far healthier both physically and emotionally) going from town to town every week just to recapture the spotlight.

These clips are great teasers for the (hopefully) eventual DVD feature. I love this stuff.

And quit hating on the wrestling scenes in the film. Rourke was actually 10x better in the ring than some of the guys that I've worked with at that level.

Had a chance to hang out on several occasions with Jake "The Snake" Roberts after his career was over. We actually met in a restaurant where he was dining out and, later, trying to score crack cocaine. My childhood memories of him on WWF were shattered in an instant. He was traveling with a British author who had paid him for rights to a biography. He even had a gaping wound on one of his forearms (he claimed from a barfight with "King Kong" Bundy) that hadn't been medically attended to. I feel better now having seen the movie and these interviews knowing that he isn't alone in dealing with these demons.

Anonymous | January 29th, 2009 04:23

How is it nearly everyone that's seen this movie gets what it's about, yet the point of the film was obviously lost on you?

The mind boggles

Tis all I can say really.

Anonymous | February 17th, 2009 11:06

I agree, I thought the interviews here were great. I am not a Wrestling fan, never have been (as a kid I felt superior knowing it was fake) it was as an adult I came to respect their athleticism, and with this movie I have come to respect their humanity.

Anonymous | February 22nd, 2009 05:31

Hey, douchebag..are you a professional wrestler? No, then shut up! Wrestling is partially scripted. Go play in traffic.

Well said sir, well said.
