MORE THAN ONCE
I saw this movie twice. I don't think I have ever done that. The movie haunts me. It shows us another side of life but also the sameness of our hopes and dreams, pain and triumphs that we all share no matter where we walk. The acting was magic. The directing made it almost documentary. I may go see it again. I will certainly buy it when it comes out on video.

Mickey deserves an OSCAR.
I love the wrestler, I think it's a bit underwritten, and could have had more scenes that didn't cycle through similar situations. I realize that by not doing that it emphasized his small life. But time on the screen is like blood in the veins, and it needs to move forward. I'd love more than anything to see Mickey accept an academy award, and even imagining it starts to choke me up. The last shot of his face at the end when he's on the ropes just overwhelms me with it's passion, emotional fullness, pain, ecstasy and life. It's the punch line at the end of a serious story. This film has made me meditate on compassion all day today. Marisa Tomei is pure grace, and Evan Rachel Wood is a real movie star. God give these people the chances to show us their stuff. Thank you Sean Penn for all your great work.
I don't know how you folks come down after making these projects.
Maybe playing some Tom Waits music helps. And how about the great songs from movies this year..The Wrestler, Synecdoche, and Gran Torino all have really wonderful songs...classic stuff!

I think that Mickeys Stunt double need to receive some public credit and let everyone know who he is!!!!
There was no stunt double. Listen to the interviews and you'll see that Rorke trained as a wrestler for this movie and did his own work.
Stunt double was Armond Cecere, aka Kid USA, an Indy standout as a baby face, and a monster athlete. Mickey never even came off the rope a single time, let alone take the bump off the ladder. youtube 'wrestlingcage' for some clips from Kid USA's federation.
Finally! A movie about wrestling and one man in particular that doesn't take cheap shots at the industry or make the men that bleed for entertainment look like a bunch of clowns. This is one film that will definately be in my personal collection.
Judging from the trailer and the comments I have read so far the movie looks great. I was taken in fully from the trailer itself so I can only imagine how engrossed I will be in theaters. I can't wait to see the film.
i can't say i am in total agreement with most of the other posters about letterman. the song and duo are a revelation, that much is obvious. a lightning strike of brilliance and we got to witness it. however, if one watches closely, in my opinion, dave is actully kind of choked up when he comes over to them.I rented the movie but sexy lingerie didn't know much about it other than the credits indicated a magical weekend by two strangers. I found myself being mesmerized wholesale lingerie by it and fell in love with all the beautiful music.I hadn't watched Letterman in years (I'm 44, and kind of over it) but stayed up just to catch this. Glen and Marketa were brilliant as always.
Mickey is incredible. I am very excited to see this movie. And if Darren Aronofsky has Mickey Rourke reprise Clarence Boddiker in the Robocop remake, I'll literally kiss his feet.
