THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES - Review by Leah Rozen
3 out of 4 stars - **Critic’s Choice**

"Not since Jodie Foster has there been a child star with the range and sensitivity that Fanning shows in this commendable coming-of-age drama. She gives an astonishingly perceptive performance as Lily, a motherless girl who in 1964 runs away from her sullen father (Paul Bettany) and takes refuge with a trio of compassionate African-American sisters living in rural South Carolina. August (Latifah), the eldest sister, is a beekeeper. In teaching budding writer Lily about bees and making honey, August also imparts important, lasting lessons about both the sweetness and stings of life.

'The Secret Life of Bees,' based on a bestselling novel by Sue Monk Kidd and directed with a delicate touch by Gina Prince Bythewood ('Love & Basketball'), also offers vivid turns by Latifah, Keys and Okonedo as the sisters, and Hudson as Lily’s father’s housekeeper. While Bees’ plot occasionally flirts with melodrama, it is still deeply satisfying to watch the film’s richly felt characters grow and change."

Great, Great, Great, Great, Great movie! This movie to me was the best book to movie. As soon as I got out the theater I went to the bookstore to purchase the book. I loved that I choosed to read the book after I saw the movie. I would see the movie in action while I read. I'm always smiling & laughing when I get to certain parts in the book. This movie was soooo awesome! Can't wait for the DVD, this is a must have in your movie collection.

i loved this movie!! It deserves an Oscar for each of the ladies in this movie. I haven't cried this much in a movie since "The Color Purple" came out.

The movie was excellent and different from any other. The beginning of the movie made me feel a little uneasy regards to the segregation and beating of Jennifer Hudson. When the story behind " May's" behavior was told, it was like you didn't want to laugh when she acted out. She was so sweet. Mid way thru the movie the whole theater was in tears and you could actually hear 85% of women crying and sniffling. I enjoyed Queen Latifah's role. She did a great job, along with others. I truly loved Daytona "Lily" Fanning. She deserves an Oscar, that little girl is a "bad mama". Everyone applauded at the end.

I apologize I mean Dakota "Lily" Fanning in the comment below ---- T. Palmer
