WORLD PREMIERE

"Based on the bestselling novel 'The Secret Life of Bees' and set in South Carolina in 1964, the film is the moving tale of Lily Owens (Dakota Fanning), a 14-year-old girl who is haunted by the memory of her late mother (Hilarie Burton). To escape her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father (Paul Bettany), Lily flees with Rosaleen (Jennifer Hudson), her caregiver and only friend, to a South Carolina town that holds the secret to her mother's past. Taken in by the intelligent and independent Boatwright sisters (Queen Latifah, Sophie Okonedo and Alicia Keys), Lily finds solace in their mesmerizing world of beekeeping, honey and the Black Madonna. Secret Life of Bees is a Fox Searchlight Pictures presentation."

Learn More About the Film

well this film will be awesome!
TRISTIAN IS ONLY 18 , AND I DONT THINK THEY KISS IN THE FILM! AND ALTHOUGH JENNIFER HUDSON ISNT OLD, SHES AN ACTRESS, SHELL PLAY OLDER, AND HOLLYWOOD SKINNY! BLACK WOMEN ARE THIN, AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THIN, YOU ACT AS IF THEY SHOULD BE FAT BECAUSE IT WAS 1960'S. AND UNLESS YOU WERE LIVING IN THE 1960'S HOW WOULD YOU KNOW WATS BELIEVABLE! IF YOU DONT THINK ITLL BE GOOD THEN DONT GO AND SEE IT!
SIMPLE!

I just finished the book and I'm sorry, but as much as I love Queen Latifah, I just don't see her as the "queen bee" of the Pink house in 1964 South Carolina. Did the film makers not read the book. And Alicia Keys...WTF...there's no way she can play one of Boatwright sisters...too young, too skinny, too unrealistic. I've heard of artistic freedom, but come on. I don't understand why you the film makers couldn't stay true to the characters. Oh well, that's Hollywood.

This is really gonna suck. I waited for so long for anything to happen in that book, but it never did. Plus, these actors are in no way realistic to 60ies south carolina; they're hardly black and they're all hollywood-skinny. It is many times described in the book how big rosaleen is, for example, and jennifer hudson does not nearly have that size. And she's in her twenties or something! If she supposedly took care of lily since she was three, she was what, 12, when assigned to that job? None of this makes any sense!

This movie is gonna be so deaf! With queen latifa and alicia keys! plus i would pay any time to see dakota lip lock with a black 19 year old boy, haha, but seriously the book is amazing therefore the movie should be amazing. Our dakota is growing up but im still taller =) and older by 19 days. Gotta give credit to Sue monk Kidd considering its her 1st work of fiction and she is currently THINKING of a 2nd book. Movie comes out in october,go see it. . if dakota reads this, love to hang out =)

I can't wait to the movie comes to san francisco, i loved the book!
