"JUNO Is a Surprise Hit In Middle America"
"Much of the film's popularity can be traced to audience demand in cities most Hollywood executives see only from 35,000 feet in their private jets. Last weekend, two of "Juno's" top 10 screens were the Celebration Cinema Grand Rapids North in Michigan and the AMC Lennox Town Center 24 in Columbus, Ohio -- both of which sold more tickets than the top 'Juno' screens in either Boston or San Francisco. (The movie is also doing robust business in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where "Juno" star Ellen Page is from.)
"'I haven't talked with anybody from any demographic group who doesn't like the film,' says B.J. Smith, the film buyer for 4,488-screen Cinemark Holdings' Kentucky and Ohio screens. 'Juno' business was especially brisk in Cinemark theaters in Canton, Ohio. 'We made $13,000 in our first three days there," Smith says. 'That's very, very good.'"

Ellen Page On USA Today's Front Page
Wise beyond her years: "Talk to Page for a few minutes, and her earnestness and seriousness of purpose come through. There's nothing flippant or flighty about her. She listens. She asks questions. And she's unfailingly polite, getting a little bashful when an attentive waiter keeps refilling her glass of water just as she goes to do it herself.
"Sometimes, shades of Juno's sharp tongue shine through. Will she be having a drink with lunch, she's asked. 'I don't think I'm going to rock some wine, but thanks, though,' she quips.
"Her poise 'is not a facade,' Cody says. 'I have a decade on the girl, and I'm intimidated by her. She is that collected, self-assured and mature. She's comfortable in her own skin. She lacks that insecurity and vanity that's rampant among young actresses these days. You'd never call her a starlet. She's an actor in the tradition of Jodie Foster and Sissy Spacek, who are two of her favorites.'"

Screenwriter Diablo Cody In the Associated Press
"...Cody is in demand, with several projects -- including one with Steven Spielberg -- pending. Entertainment Weekly recently ranked her 38th on a list of the 50 smartest people in Hollywood.
"'It's insane, it really is. I sometimes wonder how much stimulation one person can take,' Cody said during a 'Juno' promotional stop in her former hometown. 'I really feel like I have adrenaline fatigue or something.'"
"Cody, 29, has defied high odds. Not only has her first screenplay been produced -- 'Juno' reaches the screen just over two years after she wrote the first draft -- but she says it's virtually untouched from her original vision."
