Jason Reitman's JUNO hit #1 at the box office yesterday and is projected to do the same today -- passing both NATIONAL TREASURE and I AM LEGEND, both of which are showing in almost twice the number of theatres.
More from EW.com:
"The Fox Searchlight release, about a spunky, pregnant high schooler (Ellen Page), has grossed $53 million in five weeks, despite the fact that it expanded into wide release only last weekend (when it finished No. 2, behind National Treasure). It is nominated for three Golden Globes — Best Picture-Musical or Comedy, Best Actress-Musical or Comedy (Page), and Best Screenplay (Diablo Cody) — and its ongoing box office success reinforces its position as a possible Oscar contender."
Talk about the little film that could...
From the New York Post:
"With $52 million already in the bank, 'Juno' is on its way to becoming Fox Searchlight's biggest hit ever. It's approaching 'Little Miss Sunshine,' at $59.9 million, and 'Sideways,' at $71.5 million.
"'The middle of the country has really embraced the movie,' said Fox Searchlight President Peter Rice. The film, which had a limited release for larger markets before going wider last week, is making 'all the top 10 lists,' he said."
The JUNO soundtrack is now available in stores!
The JUNO soundtrack is the most popular soundtrack on iTunes and has held first place there since December 28th. Also, be sure to check out iTunes' "JUNO Room," which features actual talent play lists. The JUNO soundtrack also ranks at the top of the soundtrack category Amazon.com.
"Three and a half out of four stars!"
New York magazine's "Vulture" suggests...
...the following song as their #1 pick, saying:
#1. Michael Cera and Ellen Page, "Anyone Else But You" (Moldy Peaches cover)
"Cera and Page sound like they recorded this on a thrift-store four-track in someone's bedroom, yet this cover (taken from the hit soundtrack to their hit movie, Juno) still has higher production values than the Moldy Peaches original."
"New at No. 8 is Rhino's soundtrack to the film 'Juno' with 38,000. The album was only available digitally until yesterday, when the physical release bowed in stores. However, street date violation sales of the physical configuration last week push the album onto the big chart a week early. Of the set's 38,000 sold last week, digital retailers accounted for 99% of the total."
