The Telluride Film Festival takes place in Telluride, Colorado every Labor Day weekend, which this year spanned from August 31, 2007 - September 3, 2007. You can access the official Web site for the Telluride Film Festival here.

Both Fox Searchlight's JUNO and THE SAVAGES (which also both open in December) screened as "Sneak Peeks" and garnered very positive reactions. See what some reviewers had to say below!

Entertainment Weekly's "Popwatch Blog" made a big deal out of Jason Reitman's JUNO. From their review:

  • "Even coming down the mountain into the less mirth-deprived or oxygen-deficient environment of the multiplex later this year, Juno is still going to play like gangbusters."
  • "...A blithe-spirited confection like Juno has some odds in its favor when it comes to becoming a festival's runaway popular hit. But Reitman's movie earned that unscientific honor here largely on merit, not just its unfair comedic advantage."
  • "Reitman is well on his game, significantly improving on the hardly unappreciated Thank You for Smoking."

And Popwatch Blog said this about THE SAVAGES:

  • "The Savages, in particular, may be the closest thing to a universal crowd-pleaser... in Telluride this time around."
  • "If The Savages (which hits theaters in December) doesn't at least pick up acting nominations for these three, you'll have to wonder if too many Academy members are suffering from a touch of dementia themselves."

Here's what Variety's "The Circuit" said about JUNO:

  • "While [Brian De Palma’s] 'Redacted' screening reported several moving outbursts at the film’s shocking end, it was the afterglow of 'Juno' that had most people talking."
  • "The film is hilarious and poignant"
  • "Fox Searchlight should be confident that the film will play big to younger audiences as the raunch-factor is right in line with 'Superbad,' through refreshingly from the other gender. "

And here's Variety on THE SAVAGES:

  • Anne Thompson: "It's so well written, directed and acted (by Philip Seymour Hoffman, Laura Linnney and Philip Bosco) that the Academy and adult audiences at large will inevitably respond well. Fox Searchlight will push hard for Oscars."
  • Larry Gross: "The American film that showed as a TBA that is going to sail comfortably into favorable reactions from every demographic is Savages. Almost everyone finds something to like in this film, and Tamara Jenkins' directorial control is indisputable."

Lastly, Cinematical.com wrote a rave review about JUNO:

  • “I was lucky enough to get to see Juno at a jam-packed sneak preview here at Telluride today; it was utterly charming in every possible way, and is getting the most positive buzz I've heard about any film so far at the fest.”
  • Cody's script is pure gold -- expect big things in the future from this first-time screenwriter.”
  • “I lost count of how many times someone said something completely unexpected that made me (and the rest of the packed house) laugh out loud.”

Excited yet to check either of them out? :)
