AOL lists three Searchlight films out this summer as worthy (and dare I say better?) alternatives to the SPIDERMANS, PIRATES and SHREKS of the world...

Instead of PIRATES... See WAITRESS

AOL says: "Why? Who needs hot pirates when you've got hot pies? Let others travel to the 'World's End'; this totally adorable movie about a diner waitress (Keri Russell) who falls for the town's ob-gyn (Nathan Fillion) has a bigger heart than Davy Jones (AND better breath)."

Instead of OCEAN'S 13... See ONCE:

AOL says: "Why? The Sundance darling is 'Ocean's' apart from Clooney's star-studded, lighthearted heist flick: a small, starless, melancholy Irish movie about feelings and great music. Also notably absent from 'Once': unprovoked screaming courtesy of Al Pacino."

Instead of THE SIMPSONS... See JOSHUA (July 6TH)

AOL says: "Why? If you like your boys twisted and your families cracked, you can watch the cartoon -- or see this neat little thriller about a boy whose evil ways are so insidious that he drives the 'rents over the edge without breaking a sweat. No, that's not Bart, it's 'Joshua.'" (NOTE: Our sister company 20th Century Fox is releasing SIMPSONS, so I'd suggest you see BOTH, actually.)

P.S. In addition, Associated Press film critic Christy Lemire made a video while strolling through downtown LA in which she discusses which of this summer's films she most recommends -- and, alongside blockbusters galore, ONCE made the list! Click here for the video.

Is Once the movie that the trailer showed on the Waitress DVD? I remember that there was a preview that looked really good but I forgot to write down the name. If it's not, does anyone know what movie I am trying to find?

Once reviewed on ArtsEditor.com, the opinion article is accessible from the publication's front page.

is the movie playing anywhere?

I also want to see ONCE... I've been dying to see it since it's release but it's no where near the state of Florida!! If it's not released in movies near me.. hopefully the DVD will be out soon!

I would LOVE to see these films. I would go in a heartbeat and take friends. We relish indy films and Nashville supports them - but only when Searchlight actually releases them in Nashville. "Waitress" was finally released here - we got there 20 minutes before showtime and almost didn't get seats together. Great turnout early on a Saturday afternoon.

You want us to see indy films from Searchlight - then bring them to our cities.

I am frustrated. I want to see "Once."

ONCE will open in Nashville on Friday, June 29th!
