WAITRESS opened yesterday in New York and LA! One way Searchlight chose to celebrate the movie and continue to spread the word about its opening was through simultaneous "DJ Drop" and "Diner Dash" stunts, here in in Los Angeles.

Below is our field publicity agency's description of the goings on yesterday morning. Oh, and if you have no idea what I mean by a "DJ Drop" or "Diner Dash" -- and I'd be surprised if you did -- you'll find out what they are below!

"DJ Drops"
5 “Waitresses” – Shawn, Crystal, Sara, Vanessa, and Desiree – all met at 3400 W. Olive in Burbank this morning to create some WAITRESS magic at KYSR, KIIS, KOST, and KBIG. After much flirting and negotiating, the girls were finally allowed up to the infamous 5th floor to serve pie to DJs in the break-room. For the next hour-and-a-half, DJs from all 4 stations came in to visit with the girls and enjoy the pie. (We also got a mention on KYSR!)

The girls then split up into 2 groups. Sara and Desiree hit KROQ and KMZT. At KROQ, the producer of the morning show greeted the girls and enjoyed pie with them in the lobby. He took the rest back for the DJs to enjoy. The JACK-FM producer also came out to say hello and learn more about the film. Meanwhile, Crystal, Shawn, and Vanessa stopped by Movin’ 93 to thank Rick Dees for his support of the film. Although Rick was busy, the sales team met the girls and enjoyed a piece of pie with them.

"Diner Dash"
Sara and Desiree hit Westwood, as well as a quick run down Robertson Blvd. in Beverly Hills. The girls targeted patrons at diners, coffee shops, and people passing on the street … informing everyone they met that they need to see WAITRESS!

Shawn, Crystal, and Vanessa hit the Burbank Shopping District to spread WAITRESS joy among patrons at coffee shops and greasy-spoon diners. Several people did double-takes at the waitresses, since a promo photo of WAITRESS appeared in color in the LA Daily News that morning. What was especially heart-warming were the visits to diners which employed life-time career waitresses who were in their 50's and 60's – they were so excited to learn there was a film out inspired by their career.

The waitresses then hit the intersection of Franklin & Hollywood Blvd.'s to wave posters, give away promo items to passing cars, and inform everyone within earshot that opening day was today. Since this was a highly visible area, we spent a lot of time there. The girls then hit Hollywood & Highland for some guerilla marketing at coffee shops, diners, and the infamous Grauman’s Chinese Theatre to hit-up the tourists. The 2-for-1 pie coupons to Mani’s were a hit!

Throughout the day, many people took pictures of the girls with their cell phones – and posed with them as well. Everyone was excited to see the girls dressed up in their WAITRESS costumes and hear their rich, Southern accents. Every woman we met expressed excitement about seeing the film. The men expressed excitement about the film, too. (Or maybe they were just flirting with the girls!)
