After her original set for WATER in India was burned by angry mobs and the Indian government showed little sympathy, Deepa was forced to start the film's production all over again in Singapore.

What a reversal of fortune! Not only has WATER been nominated for a "Best Foreign Film" Oscar® but the Canadian Parliament applauded the accomplished director (and Canadian citizen) for her achievements.
