"The Namesake" is a beautiful and nostalgic story encompassing the trials of life of an Indian couple setting off from India to the United States in search of a prosperous, opportune life for their expectant family. I find this film an extremely heart-warming story that almost mirrors my experiences growing up in the West as one of two children born in the West from a South Asian migrant couple. I can empathize with the character of Nikhil Gogol Ganguli and see the wonder in the anecdotes of his father Ashoke Ganguli, who makes references to eccentric author Nikolai Gogol's, "The Overcoat". Director Mira Nair has captured this story enchantingly from the original book written by Jhumpa Lahiri. This film has opened my eyes further to the questions of roots and belonging that circle my mind. In my view, this film will be a timeless classic always.
