The NIGHT WATCH movie is based on the first third of the NIGHT WATCH book by Sergei Lukyanenko about Anton failing to get a Neutral Other, Yegor, to the Light side. The intro sequence about the witch, however, is taken from the book DAY WATCH - where it was quite the same, except that it was not Anton who employed her services.
The movie DAY WATCH is based on the two other stories from the NIGHT WATCH book - the story of an unknown Other killing Dark Others and the story about the Chalk of Fate. These motifs have been used in Day Watch, however, with lots of deviation from the novel.
There are two more books out there. "Dusk Watch" will be released in USA on June 13th. The last book in the tetralogy, "Last Watch" will be released in Winter '08.
