In director Wes Anderson's THE DARJEELING LIMITED, three American brothers who have not spoken to each other in a year set off on a train voyage across India with a plan to find themselves and bond with each other -- to become brothers again like they used to be. Their "spiritual quest", however, veers rapidly off-course (due to events involving over-the-counter pain killers, Indian cough syrup, and pepper spray), and they eventually find themselves stranded alone in the middle of the desert with eleven suitcases, a printer, and a laminating machine. At this moment, a new, unplanned journey suddenly begins. Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and Jason Schwartzman star in this film about their adventure and their friendship.

I think that it is unfortunate that anyone can post here.

Personally I am a fan of Anderson's previous works and I am content that this film will have the quirky ambiance of culture and interesting art direction that makes his films so enjoyable. I'm not very fond of the cast, not in their pervious works anyway, but Anderson has an interesting way of getting things out of actors that we don't normally see. Such as Owen Wilson in Life Aquatic. I personally usually enjoy his performances, however he seems like a one note actor, always playing the lovable smart ass, that being said there was something new in Life Aquatic. I'm getting off topic... my point being that, Anderson has truly yet to let us down, and I am excited for the release of this film.

Wes Anderson rocks.
All of these actors rock.
This movie is going to be amazing, I can't wait.

Darjeeling is one of the most beautiful parts of India. As a student of history, I studied the introduction of tea into India by the Irish brothers. I am sure the movie would be just too wonderful with an illustrious and interesting cast, beautiful landscape and the drama.

Wes Anderson is so cute! Plus he is an amazing director, and this movie looks fabulous. I love how all of his movies have their own distinctive colors.

India-EU Film Initiative, the London-based film organization, says film 'The Darjeeling Ltd' will close the London Film Festival in November 2007 but there's no mention of this news on your site. The site adds that the film will help in bringing more tourists to India. As an Indian I'd like to thank the filmmakers, if this is true at all. I really look forward to seeing the film.

Does anybody know the songs in the trailer? thanks

Anonymous | August 2nd, 2007 04:18

The songs are all by The Kinks, and they're ALL on the album "Lola VS Powerman..." A great great record. Here's the amazon link for samples and such...http://www.amazon.com/Lola-versus-Powerman-Money-Go-Round-Part/dp/B000002KOW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_5/104-4574038-9600739?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1186053409&sr=8-5

You should enjoy this. I've managed to read the screenplay, and it feels in tone closest to the comedy of Bottle Rocket far more then anything he's made. From Rushmore on, his works seemed to grow continually far more serious, which I adore. Not that this isn't, it is in fact QUITE emotionally affecting, but it's full of so many strong, wonderful jokes and slapstick sequences!

Unfortunately you may not love Owen Wilson in this, as his character is strongly related to Bottle Rocket's Dignan. He's the older brother, the impassioned planner with high aspirations and little tact. Wes seems to include a person like this in EVERY film of his, Max being Rushmore's dreamer, all three children of The Royal Tenenbaums being frayed former over-achievers, and The Life Aquatic's Bill Murray being a sort of elder, tired and wounded former scheme master. So I guess one has to expect the personality to feature somewhere. I have always sensed it's the closest to himself that Wes writes.

But you WILL LOVE Adrian Brody and Jason Schwartzman. The combo of how they look in this movie, and how their characters are in the script, will just be COMPLETE GOLD.

Also interesting! Their names, these brothers, are Francis, Peter, and Jack. Just like the three best friends Francis Ford Coppola, Peter Bogdanovich, and Jack Nicholson. If you read about their relationships together as a trio in their glory of the 1970s, and compare them to this movie, you'll find a neat little subtle tribute going on. In the movie, Francis is the leader, the scheming wise and HUGE GLORIOUS VISIONARY THINKER, just like Coppola was. Peter is the one with wife troubles, just like Bodanovich was with Polly Platt. And just like Mr. Nicholson, Jack is a super-smooth chick magnet serial super stud. It's not taken to any extreme, but as a neat directorial tribute homage sort of clever referencing thing, much as The Life Aquatic was a semi-commentary on the process of filmmaking, this movie will interest those who like being entertained on multiple wavelengths.

I'll hush up now. I've probably revealed too much. I've certainly WRITTEN too much. Thought you'd be interested, though! I hope you were!

Is it not brilliant that Anderson uses a single artist's work as the primary music throughout his films. David Bowie and Seu Jorge's Portuguese renditions of Bowie's songs were striking in The Life Aquatic. The Kinks' music, I'm sure, will add dimensions to The Darjeeling Limited.

Wes Anderson is my favorite director, and I've been waiting for him to release another film since the credits rolled in The Life Aquatic. His next project, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, will be a new venture for him, seeing as its animation. However, I'm so excited to see where he takes his emotionally-muted genre in The Darjeeling Limited. With such an amazing cast, I'm practically foaming at the mouth. Can't wait and wish the release date was sooner.

I love the sets Anderson tackles in his film. Previously highschool, the domestic sphere and beneath water's surface, now India! Anderson's settings become characters, and I look forward to seeing the role India plays in The Darjeeling Limited.

I had no idea what Darjeeling was until I checked out the film's website. Its amazing! Go to the National Geographic link to see photos and videos. After seeing the film, I'm definitely going to want to go on my own spiritual journey in India.

Interesting that Anderson uses the same color scheme for the Darjeeling poster that he uses in The Life Aquatic. He must really like yellow and blue.

Anonymous | September 28th, 2007 08:23

Everything i have seen shows a release date of Sept 29th for this movie.. but from what i can gather it is 1) not showing in Chicago, 2) there is no announcement where the "limited" release of September is going to be and if it even extends past NYC.

This is extremely frustrating for me as a movie goer. This movie is being reviewed heavily by Salon, NYtimes, etc, but apparently because i only live in the 3rd largest metropolitan area of the United States i don't get to watch this movie.

I know Steve Zizou didn't do as well as Wes Anderson would have liked, but i didn't realize it would relegate him to beneath such filmmakers that do happen to grace Chicago's screens.

From what i can tell this "release date" is only in NYC. THere is NOTHING HERE TO INDICATE if the rest of the country will ever get to see this movie. Do they not have any plans to distribute this movie to the rest of the US. Why call Sept 29th a release date at all?

THese major cities will not get to see this movie on the 29th.
(according to Fandango)

Los Angeles, CA (they have a showing listed on Oct 3 in one movie theater)

Seattle, WA

Boston, MA

Chicago, IL

Las Vegas, NV

Where exactly is this "everywhere else" and how can FOX searchlight call it a release date if it isn't released anywhere but NYC?

Anonymous | September 28th, 2007 19:33

Eh? It's a rhetorical question: "Can anyone argue that it's not brilliant?"

Anonymous | September 28th, 2007 20:27

Helloooooooooooooooooooo

Anonymous | October 1st, 2007 08:03

I am also trying to hunt down a location to see this. Highly confused by the release date. Another fantastic Fox move of course.
In Los Angeles, and waiting for my hero's creation...

Clue me and "everything i see shows..." in eh?

Anonymous | October 1st, 2007 14:29

TOTALLY.

I live in/near Los Angeles. Home of motion pictures. Where the HELL was it playing this weekend.

NO WHERE.

Gimmie a break. I totally looked everywhere. Still can't find it. LAME.

Somebody should lose thier job over this. (har har)

Chelsea Theatre, Chapel Hill, Oct 26, according to the Chelsea site. However, the Fox site doesn't confirm that. I trust Bruce more than I trust Rupert, so I'll be checking by the Chelsea.
