Back in the late ‘80s, Randy “The Ram” Robinson (Mickey Rourke) was a headlining professional wrestler. Now, twenty years later, he ekes out a living performing for handfuls of diehard wrestling fans in high school gyms and community centers around New Jersey.

Estranged from his daughter (Evan Rachel Wood) and unable to sustain any real relationships, Randy lives for the thrill of the show and the adoration of his fans. However, a heart attack forces him into retirement. As his sense of identity starts to slip away, he begins to evaluate the state of his life -- trying to reconnect with his daughter, and striking up a blossoming romance with an exotic dancer (Marisa Tomei) who is ready to start a new life. Yet all this cannot compare to the allure of the ring and passion for his art, which threatens to pull Randy “The Ram” back into his world of wrestling.

Director Darren Aronofsky presents a powerful portrait of a battered dreamer, who despite himself and the odds stacked against him, lives to be a hero once again in the only place he considers home – inside the ring.

THE WRESTLER had its North American premiere at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival and won the Golden Lion at the 2008 Venice Film Festival.

Foxsearchlight is missing a huge opportunity if it doesn't get this movie into Northeastern and Southeastern Pennsylvania. Mickey's trainers are from this area and they are already in demand for interviews and radio shows (go to www.standardspeaker.com and search "The Wrestler" and wkrz.com - click on Rocky and Sue show and scroll down) Also, part of the film is at CZW in Philadelphia and they have a huge fan base. Get this movie out there and make wrestling fans happy!!!!

ok i think everybody needs to calm down about the whole "religion" thing....to the believers, you need to chill out, there are lots of people in hollywood that are going to make "blasphemousdizi izle films" because they make a lot of money and if your so set in your beliefs then watching something like this shouldnt bother you because you know without a shadow of a doubt that your right and it is fiction.

Can't wait to get hold of this...

HOW DO YOU GET FREE TICKETS

how do i get free tickets

AS I local pro. Wrestler in Kentucky I can understand the passion it takes to do this and I am very much looking forward to seeing this movie and I have it does what we are proformers and artists go though

I Love Micky , have for years. Angel Heart was a great movie, I think he should have won an award for his part, "I know who I am."
He was crying, it was wonderful. Am so excited to see him again, would love for him to win an oscar.

Why does the film page have a release date fore 12/17 and 12/19? Are they starting out with a limited release and following it up with a national realease, or did someone just goof?

Saw this at TIFF. Rourke is a lock, The movie is possible, eglence Aronofsky is possible, and they should be going with Wood for supporting. She was so raw and real and heart searing.

How the heck can I see this? I live in IA and for some stupid reason someone decided to make this a limited release. Thanks so much morons

MICKEY ROURKE HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY FAVORITE ACTOR,TO ME ONE OF HIS FINEST PERFORMANCES
WAS Pope of grenwhich village,I was always surprised they never did a Pope (2)Even though Mickey has a outstanding body of work ,,I feel he never really got his just do.
I mean that break through part, that puts him on top..But he has been acting for at least 25 years,,so I guess that says a lot,,,I would have to say his is in that top 20 bracket,,,I would love to see Mickey do any part,,,he is the real deal,,intense, beleivable, scarry when he needs or wants to be,cool all I can say is thanks Mick for the memories. Bobby Mc Adams

I am bummed that it looks like Fox is fronting Marisa Tomei for Supporting, which will leave Evan Rachel Wood out in the cold.

Tomei is technically the female lead, but they probably don't think they can get her a lead nom.

So, they'll sacrifice Wood.

Saw this at TIFF. Rourke is a lock, The movie is possible, Aronofsky is possible, and they should be going with Wood for supporting. She was so raw and real and heart searing.

This was hands down the best movie I've seen in the last few years. Mickey's performance is breathtaking. The man commands the screen even when his back is turned away from camera. To say this is a wrestling movie is the same as saying Rocky or Raging Bull are just boxing movies.
Mickey should win an Oscar for this. Thank you to Aronofsky for giving Mickey the right platform for his talent.

I want to buy it in DVD. It sounds like an excellent study of
what happens to pro wrestlers (and I know a number) as they
fight, for real, age and their addiction to the ring lights and the crowd, the place where they can feel alive.

this sounds horrible.
