Winner of the 2008 Toronto Film Festival Cadillac People’s Choice Award, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE is the story of Jamal Malik (Patel), an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India’s "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?"

But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika (Pinto), the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show’s questions.

Each chapter of Jamal’s increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show’s seemingly impossible quizzes.  But one question remains a mystery: what is this young man with no apparent desire for riches really doing on the game show?

When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out…

The result is the sweeping, stylish, intoxicatingly human experience of SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, the new film from acclaimed director Danny Boyle (TRAINSPOTTING, SHALLOW GRAVE, MILLIONS, 28 DAYS LATER, SUNSHINE). Part exhilarating love story, part eye-catching journey into the underbelly of the so-called “maximum city” of Mumbai, part stirring tale of an Everyman’s triumph against a harsh, cynical world, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE is a visceral, action-packed Dickensian epic for the 21st Century.  At the heart of its exuberant storytelling lies the intriguing question of how anyone comes to know the things they know about life and love.

great, great feel good movie. going to watch it again tomoro. Just luv the music, and all the young actors in it.

If it was'nt for a txt a friend sent me, i would've never heard of this movie, what a shame!! It should be exposed more...

Why isn't the film showing in Houston, Texas? We are the third or fourth largest city in this country with a population of 5+MM people of very mixed ethnicity.dizi izle Comeone, Fox Searchlight pictures - we'd like a first shot at it too in Houston. We've got your other films here (the secret life of bees - I enjoyed very much) but I'd at least like a chance to see your latest and greatest. HURRY TO HOUSTON, TEXAS.

AR Rahman is the boost for this film behind the screen.

Wonderful...

Excellent movie! Great blend of Western direction with Eastern culture. A true Hindi storyline directed wonderfully by a Western director. Fabulous acting - particularly the young children!

This movie is very touching. It makes you appreciate the things we take for granted in this country and how living here is far better than anywhere else.

same as above...why is this movie not playing in houston...i see it will here on dec 19th...why the delay to this market...very hard to understand

Just saw the Slumdog at Arts Cinema. Excellent film, beautifully shot. This film met the high standards of another fanatistic film made in Pakistan, called Ramchand Pakistani which had excellent cinematography by a young & upcoming director writer Sofian Khan.

Atlanta is one of the largest MSAs in the US and it boasts one of the largest Southeast Asian populations in the US. Why is it taking so long to release the film here?

I have not felt so excited watching a movie in a long, long time.

Why isn't this film showing
in Allanta Georgia? Atlanta is a growing film production city, with millions of educated viewers who would enjoy this film? I even saw the trailer at the UA Tara theater.

Nevermind the Indian Community that lives and thrives here.

No disrespect intended, but if the film is not released due to a fear of low attendance, I have to ask what aside from trailers running before other art house movies are you doing to promote this film?

I had not seen nor heard of it outside of emails from friends in other cities who I would expect to know something about this and the trailer I saw?

Oh yeah, I saw a poster at the same theater.

If people are going to go to theaters you must advance your methods of reaching and targeting intelligent film watchers.

I fear one day the only thing in the theaters will will be Tyler Perry movies and flicks like superbad!

Idiocracy come to reality.

I agree! Why not Houston? It would do very well here!!

Fantastic!

Lovely film, disturbing, distressing, uplifting, compelling. Great actors, great directing and editing, great story, lovely soundtrack by AR Rahman.

Wow, Danny Boyle is the man!

Just saw an advance screening of this movie and I loved it. It had a little bit of every thing: action, romance, comedy, etc. The movie had me on the edge of my sit most of the time. LOVED IT... MUST SEE!

This movie left me breathless. It's Oscar worthy! I hope there a soundtrack for Slumdog because the music is equally moving and much deserving of recognition.

I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!

I saw this movie at the Austin Film Festival and it was INCREDIBLE! Can't wait to see it again when it comes to theaters!

I've read the book Q+A and thought that it was such a delightful story. I'm excited to see it in film!
