THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES, based on the New York Times best selling novel and set in South Carolina in 1964, is the moving tale of Lily Owens (Fanning) a 14 year-old girl who is haunted by the memory of her late mother (Burton). To escape her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father (Bettany), Lily flees with Rosaleen (Hudson), her caregiver and only friend, to a South Carolina town that holds the secret to her mother's past. Taken in by the intelligent and independent Boatwright sisters (Latifah, Okonedo and Keys), Lily finds solace in their mesmerizing world of beekeeping.

this movie sounds great. i think i'll have to go get the book first, tho, since i'm almost always a bigger fan of the book than its movie counterpart.

i read the book quite sometime ago and was excited when the movie was released. However it came and went before I could see it. Hoping it comes out on DVD. The book was fabulous!

i went to see the movie and i must say that it was boring to me. i think that the actress all did a good job in playing their part but the movie was about honey bees and the little girl's mother. it could have been better nothing exciting was in the movie. better luck next time.

The movie did not make it to Roswell which makes me mad anyways.I had read the book months ago and I had waited for The Secret Life Of Bees. I guess I will Have to wait Til it comes out on DVD.

Something new to break the monotony. Thank you Searchlight for saving us once again.

Does it really matter what AGE the actresses are????! The important point is that they portray the characters realistically and honestly. DANG!!!! so what, besides it's was great to see new BLACK actresses getting roles with SUBSTANCE.

WARM-REAL-KIND

The love that was displayed was amazing; I only wish we all could connect so effortlessly.

I got the e-mail for the free ticket drawing. So I watched all the trailers and really had an interest in the movie. Then I click on the cast telling people to vote... nothing wrong with that until I realized it wasn't to encourage people to vote, but to tell me to vote for Obama... what's that about?! Why are they directing me to an Obama website? I thought these commericals were suppose to just encourage all people to vote, not just vote for Obama... Now I can't even go watch that movie... I was looking forward to it. I will make my voice heard, in the ballot box and the box office. Bummer too. I am saddened such women would promote their agenda in such a way, as to use their film.

It seems to be a great movie. I would not let my beliefs stop me. Your reading to much into it.

Nah, I'll wait for it to be on the tele. I'm sure it's a good movie, but to take it and make it an object to encourage votes for a specific candidate is irresponsible. I just think they should have done it on their own, not attached political agendas onto a really good movie. With that, as a voice to the actors, Hollywood, and Washington, I'm not going to purchase a ticket. 'Making my voice count.' That's what they wanted. They want people to 'read' into the material/website they are promoting, right? So, I think I'm not reading to much into it. I got their drift. Like I said, just a bummer they attached their movie into an specified campaign ad. Dampens my interest and strips my eagerness... I'll wait for the TV version.

I read the book a few years ago. Just re-read it and enjoyed as much as the first time. I saw the movie tonight. I can't remember seeing a movie that followed so closely with the book it was based on. If you loved the book-you should love the movie. I pictured older women for June & August, but I really like the cast. Sophie Okonedo was outstanding as May. She should be an Oscar nominee. I lived in South Carolina for several years & still have some family there - it was obvious the movie was not made in the summertime like the book was set in. There was not a lot of perspiring, the corn was already brown, the leaves on the tree were turned. But the cinematography was great-it made me feel I was in each frame of the movie.I was hoping to find out if it was filmed in a familiar place in SC, but a clip had Queen Latifah mentioning being in North Carolina.

I REALLY ENJOYER THE BOOK FROM THE VERY BEGINNING.I THOUGHT THE ACTRESSES THEY SELECTED WERE GREAT. MY MIND COULD VISUALLY SEE THE FACES OF THE LADIES. I AM VERY EXCITED ABOUT VIEWING IT ON THE BIG SCREEN.

I just finished the book I was happy I was sad but most of all I could read it again . I cant wait for Friday to come I am going to see the movie I think the cast is great it will be a great movie !!!!

I just finished the book and loved it. I look forward to the movie but I do wish the casting was a little different. I am all for the younger cast to appeal to an audience that may not have otherwise been interested (and this is a movie generation Y should definitely see), however, I think Jennifer would make a better May, Sophie a better August and Latifah a better Rosaleen.

(also that is the most ridiculous captcha I've ever seen! I've had to type it in a million times, save it to my desktop and zoom in on it!)

I can't wait to see the movie. I loved the book. I laughed and cried, got mad and was happy.I didn't want the last page of the book to come. And everyone fussing about the actors, remember in the 60's 30 was mid age or older.

Nicely cast. I hope they stuck to the Book as closely as possible. This will be a must see for me.

The book was excellent! I actually purchased two copies of it; 1 for me and 1 for my 13 year old daughter. I was excited to find out that the book was coming to the big screen. Very good cast to draw in a younger audience and I really hope they capture each character along with how the book portrays them. I would have thought that Loretta Devine or Alfre Woodard would have made an excellent August. I can’t wait to see the Movie!

WELL IM SORRY THAT OLD PEOPLE CIOULDNT PLAY THESE ROLES!!! ONE - IF YOU WANT THE FILM TO APPEAL TO A YOUNGER AUDIENCE THATS WHATS NEEDED. FILM AND STORIES ARE CHANGED ALL THE TIME, THIS IS NO DIFFERENT, THE FACT THE JENNIFER HUDSON ISNT 1,000 YRS OLD DSNT MATTER, THEYRE ACTRESSES, YOU ACT OLDER INTO THE PART, SIMPLE! I ALSO FEEL THEY CHOSE WISELY WHEN CASTING THIS FILM, THEY PICKED ALL A-LIST ACTRESSES AND SOME AWESOME MALE ACTORS FOR THE ROLES OF ZACH AND TRAY! TRAY IS A YOUNG ACTOR, DAMN GET OVER IT! ENJOY THE FILM!

i posted a comment on the other page. .the only thing off about the film is that they kept dakota's blonde hair. .but i could care less! she rocks, book is beastin, and the movie gonna be def

Read the book, then go see the movie by all means. I agree that casting could have been better - older players except for Dakota F. who is perfect for the part - the book is great because of the "older black ladies" in the story. The movie will let you see what you might have visualized in your mind when reading the book - I will definitely see it, for comparison - anxious to see how the ending will play out with the "younger" cast.
I know for sure that I will come out of this movie preferring the book to the movie - as is always the case with movies made from books.

As a senior citizen I want to be excited about the Secret Life of Bees the movie. I am sadly disappointed that seniors so much loved in the story have been demoted to 20-30 yr. olds. Something is very wrong here.

I'm so excited!! It's an AMAZING book, glad to see someone was smart enough to make it into a movie.

whats is a great movie i didn't see it lol but ohh well what is the movie called?

My all-time favorite book! I dreamed that Oprah would turn it into a movie...glad to see that someone did. If they are loyal to the book, it should be a huge hit.

Nicely cast. I hope they stuck to the Book as closely as possible. This will be a must see for me.

Ths synopsis of the Secret Life of Bees sounds a if it will be a pretty good movie. The guys would probably say is it a "girl movie". I would like to see when it comes in October.
