I just saw Notes on a Scandal last night. I don't know what all the hoo ha is about Dame Judy smoking. It was hardly an ad for Virginia Slims, more a picture of a old sad frustrated lonely woman who understandably reaches for a fag. More a cautionary tale than a plug for big tobacco!. Anyway, enough of that red herring, the film is brilliant. It shows real understanding and compassion for all the characters. At last a film that isn't all black and white, good and evil with a syrupy ending. Only the brits could have done it.
